Divergent:

2 types of divergent plate movements:

1. Continental and continental plates diverging
When two continental plates diverge, the land in between them sinks, forming rift
valleys.

2. Oceanic and oceanic plates diverging

When two oceanic plates diverge,This occurs above rising convection
currents. The rising current pushes up on the bottom of the lithosphere,
lifting it and flowing laterally beneath it. This lateral flow causes the plate
material above to be dragged along in the direction of flow. At the crest of
the uplift, the overlying plate is stretched thin, breaks and pulls
apart.When the fissure opens, pressure is reduced on the superheated
mantle material below. It responds by melting, and the new magma flows
into the fissure. The magma then solidifies and the process repeats itself.

Effects of Divergent movement:

-> Ocean ridges
-> seafloor spreading
-> New crust formation
-> Ocean Basins
-> Earthquakes
-> Volcanoes

Convergent:
There are three types of convergent movements. There is oceanic and oceanic,
continental and continental, and continental and oceanic.

Continental + Ocean :
When the oceanic and continental plates converge, the oceanic plate is much
thinner and weaker than the continental crust, which is a lot more thick, thereby
making it stronger. The oceanic plate cannot withstand the pressure from the
continental plate, and so subducts under the continental plate. The oceanic plate
subducts, while the continental plate, due to its thickness, faces minimal damage
such as fold mountains and trenches from the pressure.
When the oceanic plate subducts, the heat underneath the crust turns it to
magma, and it then rises from ridges, creating new seafloor.

Landforms created:
● Trenches
● Volcanoes
● Fold mountains

Continent + continent forms mountains. They force the land in between to rise,
causing mountains to form.

Transform:
Only causes earthquakes and new fault lines to be formed, no landforms made.
