History of cinema

Evolution of cinema

Cave Paintings - The need to record movement dates back to the dawn of humanity.
Paintings were the first ways of representing the dynamic aspects of human life.

Shadow play - Appears in China, around 5000 B.C. It is the projection, on walls or
linen screens, of cut and manipulated human figures, animals or objects.

Cinema was born from several innovations, from photographic mastery to the synthesis
of movement, using the persistence of vision with the invention of optical games. The
most important were:

With the photographic domain, several inventors, from countries such as France and the
United States, developed devices to capture and project moving images. Let's look at
some of these machines:

Dark Chamber - Developed by Neapolitan physicist Giambattista Della Porta in the

16th century. Through it the rays reflected by external objects penetrate and cross. The
image, inverted, is inscribed on the face of the bottom, inside the box.

Magic Lantern - Created by the German Athanasius Kirchner in the 17th century, it
was an object composed of a cylinder illuminated by candlelight to project images
drawn on a glass slide.

Kinetoscope - Launched in 1894 at the factory run by Thomas Edison (1847-1931) in

the United States, the kinetoscope was an individual machine for watching short films.

The invention was only possible because Edison created a celluloid film capable of
storing the images and thus projecting them through the lens.

Cinematograph - Conceived by the Lumièr brothers in 1895 from the improvement of

the kinetoscope, they were the inventors of the cinematograph, and are often referred to
as the fathers of cinema.
