ACTIVITY

Schema Activation / Motivation :

Choose your partner. I have here the following recipe for baking cookies: Discuss with your
partner the importance of the words in carrying out the steps accordingly.

FIRST, preheat the oven to 350° F , THEN, grease the cookie sheets. AFTER THAT, stir the
peanut butter and sugar together in a medium bowl until smooth. NEXT, beat in the eggs, one
at time, then stir in the baking soda, salt, and vanilla. THEN, roll dough into 1 inch balls and
place them 2 inches apart onto the prepared cookie sheets. Bake for 8 - 10 minutes in the
preheated oven. LASTLY, allow cookies to cool on baking sheet for 5 minutes before moving
them to a wire rack to cool completely.

Process the activity. Call on students to discuss their answers.

ABSTRACTION

The teacher will introduce the logical connectors as well as the examples of it.

Focus:

1. Chronological and logical sequence

2. Summation

I. Connectors that signals choronological and logical sequence.

Chronological, in terms of writing composition means that the things happened or came to
be a re - arranged in order. Logical, is when you give your ideas in a reasonable or proper way.

NUMERICAL

Chronological Logical

• in the ( first ) place • initially

• first of all • secondly

• second

Example:

• First, I would like to thank everyone who has contributed to this success.

• First of all, we'd better sure that we got everything we need.

Connectors are used to begin a sentence or a paragraph and also to show the sequence of the
event happened.

BEGINNING

Chronological Logical

• at first • initially
• to start with

• to begin with

Example:

• For a start, I found it difficult to deal with new environment.

• At first, my doctor thought I have covid but further testing proved I didn't.

To continue a certain paragraph, the following connectors are used to resume the happenings.

CONTINUATION

Chronological Logical

• before this • next

• previously • then

• afterwards

• eventually

• subsequently

• after this

Example:

• Write your name on the space provided. Afterwards, read the instructions carefully.

• Then answer the question properly.

To conclude a certain paragraph, the second column ( connectors ) helps to end a composition.
CONCLUSION

Chronological Logical

• at last • Lastly

• eventually • to conclude (with)

• Finally • at last

• in the end • last but not the least

• as a final point

Example:

• It was such a long travel. Finally, we got the chance to have a glance on th e beautiful island
of Palawan.

• Last but not the least, it's growth and production has a huge impact on the environment we
live in.

II. Connectors that signal summation

These connectors that signal summation are divided into three and they are categorized by
their appropriate functions.

GENERAL Review of Main Idea or Effect/ Result and Summary

Purpose

• to summarize • as was previously stated • thus

• to sum up • as I have said • therefore

• in summary • as has been noted • then

• in conclusion • as has been mentioned • so

• hence

• consequently

• given ( all these options)

In general, the following connectors are used when you give the most important information
about the paragraph.

Example:

• In conclusion, walking is a cheap, safe, enjoyable and readily available form of exercise.

• To sum up, I hope the preceding arguments have convinced you of the need for action.

To emphasize or go over with the key points that was mentioned in a certain paragraph, the
following connectors in the second column above helps to connect ideas you want to
emphasize.

Example:

• As I have said, water the plants as much as possible so thay they will not be withered.

• As has been noted ftom the guest speaker's speech. " Do not give up and continue fighting".

The third column above are the following connectors used after reviewing the main idea or
purpose to proceed to give its effect or result of the composition.

Example:

• Progress so far has been very good. Therefore, we are confident that the work will be
completed on time.
Skill Building

Activity 1.

Directions: Organize the class into small groups and distribute to each group the Transition
Words/Phrases Table. Place the connection word/ phrase to the function it performs

• First • Finally • Furthermore • In conclusion

• Third • Meanwhile • Second • Consequently

• To sum up • By and large • Previously • Then

• Later on • Since • In brief • After

• Next • Immediately • Suddenly • Simultaneously

• Soon • After all • Briefly • All things

Generalization

What is the importance of then learning logical connectors?

APPLICATION

Group yourselves to 5. Each group will be given different copies of a food recipe and you need
to arrange the steps using the logical connectors. After that, present it to the class.

IV. Evaluation

Describe your life as a student using 3 paragraphs. Use atleast 5 logical connectors.

V. Remarks
Within one hour, the lesson plan was effectively completed and evaluated.

VI. Reflection

1. Students gain an understanding of the functions of logical connectors through the

presentation of instances.

2. Using tables and graphs in teaching helps students understand and retain information more
effectively.

3. Giving students questions to answer during a discussion encourages them to collaborate and
communicate with one another and with the teacher as a result.

VII. Assignment

Copy the following paragraph into a Word Document

Rewrite it using atleast five logical connectors:

John and Carol's "dream vacation" didn't go off as planned at all. Their flight was delayed
unexpectedly. They had to wait for six hours at the airport. During the flight, there was a lot of
turbulence and Carol got sick. When they landed, they found that the rental car agency didn't
have a car ready for them. They were able to rent a car from another company. The weather
