Water and Ethanol system:

Ethanol=.5
50mol/sec
Water= .5
Top Product

1atm
25 C
Reflux=3

Water=.55
Ethanol=.45
2atm
25 C

Bottom ratio=2/3

Steps:
1. Select a stream 1
2. Then I configure it by selecting an appropriate model by following procedure:
i. Go to flowsheet
ii. Then clicking configure option.
iii. Configuration window will open.
iv. Select TEA (CAPE-OPEN 1.1)

v. Then click on add icon

vi. Following window will open
vii. Click on New icon as our problem contain none of this package shown in this
window
viii. Following window will appear. Click on add.

ix. Then select component ethanol and water.

x. Also select model set to UNIFAC VLE.

xi. Now click OK.

3. Then click on stream 1, a window will open then specify its temperature, pressure and
other parameters.
4. Then add valve and then a stream 2 outside the valve.
5. Also add a mixer and stream 3 at the inlet of mixer and stream 4 at the outlet.

6. Now add separator by selecting chemsep separator.

7. Then chemsep window will open. Add reflux ratio and bottom to feed ratio and enter it.
As shown in red circle.
8. Then add stream 5 at the top and stream 7 at the bottom.
9. Simulate it and see the results.
Conclusion:
As stream 2 and 3 have different pressures. After mixing their pressure becomes equal to 1atm.
And their flow rates are added at stream 3. And separator top product is mainly ethanol because
its boiling point is lesser then the water.
