Part I: Reflection Paper on the Webinar

WHAT I SEE- Make a summary of the facts, new knowledge that you have culled out
from the Webinar.

“History in the Making: A journey of Resilience of the family, leadership, and the
Economy, Challenges, and the Prospects”

The three topics discussed during the webinar were truly insightful. The first topic-
“Duterte’s Rise to Presidency” which was discussed by Atty. Dino De Leon was somewhat
a recall of all the anomalies made by the current administration. The Marcos burial, war on
drugs, Sen. De Lima as a political prisoner, the impeachment of former chief justice Maria
Lourdes Sereno, Rappler’s maria Ressa being guilty with libel cases, the ABS-CBN
shutdown, the anti-terror bill, and the mishandling of the pandemic were just some of the
controversial issues during the old duterte’s reign. These are all proofs of the prejudices
and incompetency of the chief executive of our state. Mr. Jan Aquino’s topic which is
“The Impacts of Covid-19 to the Landscape” was something really refreshing for me since
I barely know the system of the BPO industry. Due to the emergence of the pandemic,
many people have switched to working online. BPO industry as being adaptive to the
changes has become an essential industry to our economy. It is one of the two pillars of
our economy. Over a million Filipinos today are working in the said industry even
students. Truly, BPO industry is a fast-rising industry which is not only beneficial to
Filipinos but also a job that is safer and more convenient especially now that we are amidst
this pandemic. For the last topic, “Family and Marriage”, Atty. Jesus Falcis widen my
knowledge regarding the issues concerning LGBTQ+ community. The Philippines does
not offer any legal recognition to same-sex marriage, civil unions or domestic partnership
benefits. Atty. FAlcis filed the first case questioning the denial of same-sex marriage and
equal protection to LGBTs before the Supreme Court. Same-sex marriage is what the
LGBTQ+ community has been fighting for for a long time. Allowing same-sex marriage
would definitely enable gays and lesbians in the Philippines to marry the person they love
and would strengthen everyone's rights. From a human rights perspective, broadening civil
marriage to couples of the same sex demonstrates respect for the fundamental rights of
equality and nondiscrimination.

WHAT I THINK- On the strength of your analysis and from the sources that you have
gathered as your basis, give a discussion of the meat of the Webinar vis-a-vis our Course
Kasaysayan.

All of the problems that we are currently facing might never happen if we look
back in our history and learn from it. Under the Duterte Administration, many people
suffered from the injustices and cruelty. The mainstream media have been oppressed and
many innocent people were killed. The Philippines had been led by a dictatorial
government before so we should have done better. There should be no chance for a fascist
government to be build, but in 2016, the Philippines made a wrong decision. It is certain
that during this administration, we have a poor economical status and this is due to the
mishandling of the pandemic. However, I think that the BPO industry is saving so many
families because of its rising demand. Technology is a tool made by our ancestors in order
for us to use it in the most efficient way. I believe that when we are able to use our
resources well then we can also conclude that the things that were made by our ancestors
which were developed by scientists and technologists today

I also agree to the Atty. Falcis that same-sex marriage must legalized here in our state.
Marriage for me is something that should be celebrated by all genders. I think that if we
really do respect the LGBTQ+ community then we should also support them as they fight
for this right.

During the webinar, I was really listening to each of the topics not just because it is
required but because I want to be part of making history. By gaining knowledge about the
different dilemma that the Philippines was and is currently facing then surely, even little
steps would be made. In the upcoming election, we will be making a big history, it’s either
we elect a son of a dictator or elect the real public servant. I want to be one of the people
who’s going to make a history and that is to elect the latter because I know that she is a
woman that would give equal importance to the problems faced by Filipinos-injustices,
unemployment, and discrimination among the LGBTQ+ community.

WHAT I FEEL- What are your realizations. Moving forward, what can you
recommend/suggest?

Truly, the webinar was very insightful. I would also like to note that I truly admire
the courage of Atty. De Leon for asking the president’s SALN which I think is right to
know.
