Pototan, is a 1st class municipality in the province of Iloilo with nearly 79, 000 of its population.

The municipality is recognized not only as rice granary of panay but also declared by the Department of
Tourism, Regional Office as the "Christmas Capital of Western Visayas for its Iwag festival.

Pototan’s late mayor Manuel “Quedo” Parcon conceiled this Christmas celebration during the
late sixties where the town plaza glowed with thousands of Christmas lights and the municipal edifices
were traced with colorful lights. Unfortunately, the proclamation of Martial law brought an end to the
popular celebration. Pototan, Iloilo transforms its grounds into a magical and spectacular wonderland
of lights. Its magnificent drive-through Christmas Light Show is bigger and better every year. Pototan
never ceases to amaze its visitors every Yuletide season with its extravagant display of lights dubbed as
“Iwag Festival of Lights”.

The festival, officially named Iwag from the Hiligaynon term meaning light, falls on December 16
every year since 1997 and will last until January 1st of the following year. It is aimed on focusing on the
true meaning of Christmas, the birth of the Lord Jesus Christ who is the “True Light that Enlightens the
World”.

A gathering of superb lighting creators accumulates their heads to guarantee that they have
some new lighting plans to show each Yuletide Season. The IWAG group is composed of service-oriented
Pototanons that functions as some assistance of the nearby government and the network. With its
lovely Christmas lights that lit up the entire city court each December every year, the entire family
particularly the children will really appreciate this celebration.

The IWAG Christmas Festival of Lights will open after a short program at around 6 p.m. of
December 16, 2016 with an opening salvo of the Street Dancing Competition at 1 p.m. The whole
expansive plaza of Pototan is transformed into a Christmas village that lighted up every night. To
conserve the original Filipino or Pinoy style, lots of 'tiangges' or kiosks and numerous delicious Filipino
street foods are can be found everywhere in the vicinity.
