Texas Heartbeat Act

The Texas Heartbeat Act requires that a transvaginal ultrasound be carried out to

reveal cardiac activity in an embryo at roughly six weeks of pregnancy. This allows anybody

to file a lawsuit against anyone who conducts, injures, or assists in an abortion or aids and

abets one. For the following reasons, I would like to propose a motion that states that this law

should be overturned.

Individual and congregational religious freedom is threatened if this law allows any

private citizen to sue anyone they believe is aiding and abetting an abortion. When it comes

to unintended pregnancies, religious and spiritual leaders and communities will be affected

first (Bombino, 2021). Secondly, religious secrecy and trust could be shattered as a result.

Another effect would be that people would be more reluctant to reach out to those in need,

especially clergy and vulnerable women, for fear of being revealed and penalized for their

private, spiritual interactions. This rule will also have an impact on the Jewish religion, which

mandates an abortion if it is required to maintain the well-being of the pregnant person

(Bombino, 2021).

There is an appeal-to-faith fallacy at play here in which it links what is heavenly with

lawful correctness. Laws govern all Americans, even those who do not believe in God or the

existence of such a thing as God (Azeem, 2021). This means that laws should be supported

by existing legal concepts, and their explanation should be based on objective and unbiased

rationale. Under any other test, this law does not stand up to scrutiny, and it is based solely on

religious considerations.

However, a rebuttal to these pros is that God has endowed each and every one of us

with the right to life. Thus, abortion causes millions of children to lose their right to life every

year. By this way of understanding, then we can conclude that this law should not be

overturned.
