Communication is conveying or imparting information, and this may be by talking, writing,

or using some medium. It is the foundation in which society runs. When children are born,

they must first learn how to communicate for them to take the next steps in their life, like

going to school and learning. Excellent communication is when both parties understand each

other and are effectively associating. Taking a look specifically on how practical and

excellent communication skills are useful in the workplace in an aim to gain a deeper

understanding.

Communication faces different challenges in the workplace; these challenges are known as

communication barriers. The barriers are also classified as physical barriers, physiological

barriers, and physiological barriers (Deveugele2015). Some of these communication barriers

are like the use of complicated and hard to understand terms, physical disabilities like the

hearing impaired, different viewpoints, language differences, and difficulties in hearing

foreign ascents. Some of these barriers are easy to solve or workaround, and some may

require more effort by the involved parties.

There are ways to gain excellent communication skills and combat communication barriers.

First is by practicing active listening; this is by actively participating and listening to the

person conveying information to you. By practicing active listening, you will create a

positive environment around you, be it in the workplace or even at home. Active listening

makes the conveyer of the information feel appreciated and accepted. Another way of

improving your communication skills is by use of natural and simple to understand language.

By use of simple language, everyone will feel involved (Raper et al., 2015). Not everyone in

the workplace or around fully grasps the tough definitions in a language.

Another way to practice excellent communication skills is by giving feedback. Giving

feedback shows that you were actually listening to the information being passed, and you are

processing it. Although, at times, the feedback being offered may not necessarily be pleasant,

it is an integral part of practicing excellent communication skills. When also giving back

feedback, you should be sensitive to all parties involved and know that emotions are

involved. By practicing excellent communication in the workplace, it will create a functional

and positive environment which will enhance productivity and the performance of the

company in general.

Excellent communication also builds trust in the organization in that there is a deep

understanding of each other by colleagues. Because of the understanding, the trust levels in

the company will grow and will be beneficial for the organization. There is also a relatively

new area in communication is technology. Technology has widely been adopted in

companies and has further streamlined communication in the cooperate world. The

streamlining has been through the use of electronic communication like emails and

WhatsApp; they have become very vital tools of communication in most organizations.

In conclusion, excellent communication skills are an essential part of the world and

incredibly vital for businesses across the globe. For one to be useful and effective in the

business world, it is crucial to have a full grasp of excellent communication skills.
