A REPORT ON WHEASTONE BRIDGE DESIGNED USING THE THREE SOFTWARES(PSPICE CIRCUITMAKER

AND MULTSM)

A Wheatstone bridge is a null measurement device for calculating resistance by balancing the potential
drops in a circuit. A galvanometer forms a bridge between the two branches in it. A Variable resistor is
used in the construction of the bridge which is regulated until the galvanometer reads zero. The zero
readings from the instrument means there is no current flow across the two branches. The variable
resistor was also used to simplify the circuit allowing R x to be calculated based on the IR drop.

I1R2=I2RX I1R1=I2R3

Therefore, the unknown resistance Rx =R3*(R2/R1)

The method can be very accurate but limited by two factors :It is not possible to get the current through
the galvanometer to be exactly zero, second there are always uncertainties in R 1 R 2R3 which contribute
to uncertainty to Rx .

For our circuit, R1=25,R2=14,R3=28, the unknown R4=28*(25/14)=50(circuit maker)

The value of the resistor was verified using ohms law. Where the current through the resistor and the
voltage across it were recorded after the simulation=34.62 and I=692.3mA. From V=IR,
R=34.62/692.3*10^-3 =50.00ohms.
