What is a Genome?

The totality of an organism's genetic data is contained in its genome. It offers all the data needed

for the organism to function. The genome is kept in living organisms in the form of

chromosomes, which are large DNA molecules. Genes are tiny chunks of DNA that contain the

instructions for producing the RNA and protein molecules needed by an organism. In eukaryotes,

the nucleus is a membrane-bound structure that houses each cell's genome. The nucleoid is a

region of the cytoplasm that houses the genome of prokaryotes, which lack inner membranes. A

genome's transcriptome is the entire set of RNA molecules it expresses, and a genome's

proteome is the entire collection of proteins it generates.
