The issue of using the vernacular inside an English class has been a topic of

great controversy; hence, this study was conducted to spot the positive effects of
code-switching in an English class. Specifically, this aims to see how this
controversial issue within the field of pedagogy can boost the learners’ confidence
and engagement during class discussions. the info obtained revealed that the
utilization of CS inside an form bears positive effects on the extent of confidence and
engagement of the learners. The pedagogical implications of the study may be used
and be considered by language teachers to further improve second language
acquisition among the learners. supported the learners’ own experiences and
responses, which served because the data employed in this study, the utilization of
code-switching incorporates a positive effect on increasing and boosting their
confidence and engagement during English classes; consequently, the teacher also
plays a good part in boosting the learners’ motivation to participate and have
interaction themselves in discussions. Hence, during the teaching-learning process,
teachers should make their best to optimize learners’ emotional factors, lower their
affective filters that's, high motivation, low anxiety and this can be possible with the
utilization of code-switching.

states that she wants all basic subjects to be taught in English all told schools within
the provinces, following poor ratings in reading comprehension and other subjects
among Filipino children. Garcia said that she wants to travel back to the time when
English was getting used for sophistication lectures, citing the "embarrassing" rating
achieved by Filipino schoolchildren. She added that learners can learn and use their
first language, Cebuano, at home and community. The Philippines ranked the bottom
in reading comprehension and second lowest in science and arithmetic among 79
countries covered by the 2018 Programme for International Student Assessment, a
worldwide survey conducted by OECD. Results showed that one in four students is
unable to complete even the foremost basic reading tasks. The governor said that
the employment of English because the primary language of instruction has worked
before and will not are changed within the first place. She added that other countries
are attempting to lift more English speakers while Filipinos are "trying to forget
English." She said students get confused as they first attend classes taught in their
first language until Grade 3, Filipino from Grades 4 to six, and eventually, in English
from Grade 7 onwards. Garcia added that she's going to ask the college board to
implement the "English only" policy until someone files a case to prevent her from
doing so.
