Infinity, Nullity, Transmathematics

~ ∞ ~ Infinity is Infinitely Infinite ~ ∞ ~

It is important to remember that mathematics as we know it, is not a law - essentially, math is a
language, through which we explain something that we can't know otherwise. All languages use
symbols to convey an idea - therefore, the symbols used in math are comparable to the words
used in speech, and notes used in music. We use math to explain the unexplainable, e.g., the
concept of infinity only exists because there is a word for it - yet, we cannot even begin to
comprehend how infinite, infinite really is.

That being said, have you ever thought about what Infinity really is? How do we define it? The
short and concise definition would simply be: Infinity (∞) is the unreachable point at the end of a
neverending line that repeats itself ad infinitum; in other words, Infinity is a concept describing
something without any limit - infinity is infinitely infinite, where even seemingly finite structures
are inherently infinite at all points.

Quite curiously, we as humans have learned to set limits to everything, even to Infinity itself -
one good example would be the Planck constant, which is a physical constant that is the quantum
of action, central in Quantum Mechanics; it is used to describe the smallest possible theoretical
particle in the known universe - having a size of 10 -33cm (-10 followed by 33 zeroes).

Why do we set a limit to infinity and everything that are so deeply dependent upon the very
definition of something having no limits at all? One of the main problems for understanding the
existence of Parallel Universes and realities is the kind of thinking that we use - we set limits to
everything, even to infinity.

Hence, we arrive at a simple conclusion: our current mathematics is also limited to the confines
of our thinking; the very mathematics that are used to represent the hypothetical functioning of
the Universe and the laws of physics is limited to the core. We should upgrade our ways of
thinking to match that of Inifinite Possibility - in other words, Non-Dual approach to Living Life.

One of the most harmful inventions of all time is the quick fix around "cannot divide by zero"
problem - this "solutions" has a name, or acronym NaN; it is found in computing (meaning any
electronic technology of today) - NaN stands for not a number, which is a numeric data type
value representing an undefined or unrepresentable value, especially in floating-point
calculations. Systematic use of NaNs was introduced by the IEEE 754 floating-point standard in
1985, along with the representation of other non-finite quantities like infinities.

The "quick fix" around the Infinity problem is the prevention of dividing by zero - it is found in
every computer system and technology gadget that ever has been produced; if there would not be
"cannot divide by zero" error message on our systems, every electronic gadget would fail to
operate, causing major problems. When you think about it, our current society is based on
computers, and software that runs the hardware - it makes you wonder, how many bugs we find
in our sofware each day?

And now, think for yourself how many of these bugs are based on the calculation problems?
Programs are created by man, and there is always a human level of error involved, when
programming large systems. How vulnerable our systems really are when everything is based on
the assumption that we cannot divide by zero, and all responsibility lies in the hands of
programmers?

Could there be another way to approach this? Yes, there is, and it has a name: Transmathematics
- it involves the paradigm changing way to see the World; this means that we should upgrade our
thinking to match that of Inifinite Possibility - in other words, Non-Dual thinking.

In transmathematics, zero divided by zero is a number - when you divide by zero the result is a
non-finite number: any positive number divided by zero is positive infinity; any negative number
divided by zero is negative infinity; and the missing number, zero divided by zero is nullity.
Dividing by zero is no more mysterious than finding the square root of a negative number.
Transreal arithmetic divides by zero using only accepted algorithms of arithmetic - you already
know how to divide by zero!

Transreal Numbers

* Positive infinity, +∞, is the biggest transreal number.

* Negative infinity, -∞, is the smallest transreal number.
* Nullity, Φ, is the only transreal number that is not negative, not zero, and not positive.

Transmathematics is just ordinary mathematics, except that it ignores the prescription not to
divide by zero. Transmathematics can do everything that ordinary mathematics does, and more.
Transmathematics are total over the basic operations of arithmetic: all of addition, subtraction,
multiplication and division can be applied to any numbers with the result being a number.

James Anderson is an academic staff member in the School of Systems Engineering at the
University of Reading, England. He is currently teaching compilers, algorithms, and computer
algebra, and in the past he has taught programming and computer graphics. Anderson's transreal
arithmetic, and concept of "nullity" in particular, were introduced to the public by the BBC with
its report in December 2006 where Anderson was featured on a BBC television segment teaching
schoolchildren about his concept of "nullity". James Anderson explains nullity and infinities as
follows:

Infinities have been defined before, as limits and cardinalities, the new definition is different
from these in that it defines the infinities and nullity as fractions. This approach, too, has been
taken many times in the history of mathematics but my infinities and nullity have some new
properties that have not been anticipated by other authors, even modern authors who have
defined zero divided by zero in other algebraic contexts. I believe the definition of nullity is the
first to define real zero divided by real zero as a number.
