Performance and Longevity

MTU provides a full range of consumable supplies for use in preventive maintenance programs. These consumables can be grouped into three main categories:
filters, including air, oil and fuel; lubricants, including engine oils and greases; and coolants, both concentrates and pre-mixed. All of these products must pass
thorough testing to qualify them for usage in MTU diesel engines and other systems. MTU supplied consumables help customers attain maximum performance
from their engines in terms of power, torque, longevity and low total cost of operation. Consumables play a vital role in protecting a customer’s investment.
Our extensive testing, superior design and top-quality materials produce premium products.

The MTU POWER COOL® advantage protects against damage in four ways:
1. In cold environments they lower the freezing point of the coolant.
2. In hot conditions and severe duty, they raise the boiling point of the coolant.
3. They form a durable, sacrificial coating on cylinder liners to help prevent pitting damage.
4. They inhibit corrosion and the formation of deposits that can lead to overheating.

MTU offers POWER COOL® in additive packages or as complete antifreeze products. They are available both in concentrate form (additive only and glycol blends) and
in a variety of ready-to-use premixed concentrations engineered to meet your specific needs. Its Hybrid Organic Acid Technology (HOAT) chemistry combines
the best of conventional and organic acid-based chemistry to provide the ultimate protection against rust and corrosion. All MTU POWER COOL® products are
designed to maintain optimal performance and help extend operational life.

MTU POWER COOL® Concentrate

This concentrated ethylene glycol-based coolant uses a hybrid inhibitor package that lasts longer than conventional coolants. Its low-silicate, low pH,
phosphate-free technology protects all cooling system metals from corrosion and cylinder liners against pitting.

Benefits: lexibility – can be diluted to different concentrations to provide, as-needed, lower or higher levels of protection against freezing
F
or overheating
Quality – contains a high-quality defoamer system and will not harm gaskets, hoses, plastics or original vehicle finishes
Durability – recommended change interval is 9,000 hours or 5 years, whichever comes first
Value – concentrate form lowers shipping costs by decreasing weight

MTU POWER COOL® 50/50 Premix

This ethylene glycol-based coolant is used full strength because it has already been pre-blended with a 50% concentration of high-quality water, and the
right concentration of a patented hybrid organic/inorganic (nitrite-based) Supplemental Coolant Additive. The low silicate formulation protects all cooling
system metals, including aluminum, from corrosion.
Benefits: Convenience – ready to use; no further dilution necessary
Quality – water content is demineralized and low in salts and hardness ions to inhibit corrosion and scale deposits
Protection – protects engines in temperatures as low as -34° F/-37° C; will not harm gaskets, hoses, plastics or original vehicle finishes
Durability – recommended change interval is 9,000 hours or 5 years, whichever comes first

MTU POWER COOL® Plus Marine 30/70
This ethylene glycol-based coolant is pre-mixed at a 30/70 antifreeze-to-water ratio, but includes 100% of the proprietary hybrid inhibitor package. It is
designed for marine applications where minimal freeze protection (down to 5°F / -15°C) is required.

Benefits: Convenience – ready to use; no further dilution necessary

Quality – water content is demineralized and low in salts and hardness ions to inhibit corrosion and scale deposits
Protection – hybrid technology is particularly effective in marine heat-exchanger systems where drastic temperature changes occur
Durability – recommended change interval is 9,000 hours or 3 years, whichever comes first

MTU POWER COOL® Plus 6000 Concentrate

This coolant additive is used in applications where no freeze protection is required. It contains no nitrites or silicates, and provides excellent protection against
corrosion and pitting when mixed with good quality water at a concentration of 10% by volume.

Benefits: Quality – provides optimum engine cooling, including marine applications where there are high ambient water temperatures
Protection – hybrid technology is particularly effective in marine heat-exchanger systems where drastic temperature changes occur
Durability – recommended change interval is 6,000 hours or 2 years, whichever comes first

MTU POWER COOL® 3149

This ethylene glycol-based coolant concentrate is specially formulated for the MTU Detroit Diesel Series 149 engine. It contains no phosphates or silicates
and is therefore not compatible with aluminum engine parts.

Benefits: Quality – No phosphates reduces the likelihood of scale buildup, and absence of silicates helps maintain coolant flow and optimal
engine cooling
Protection – protects in temperatures as low as -34° F/-37° C when mixed with water at the recommended 50% concentration.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Why should I use MTU POWER COOL® coolants?

MTU POWER COOL® products are specially designed to protect the metals and seals used in our
off-highway engines. At the recommended concentration, this range of coolants provides excellent
heat transferability and prevents corrosion, cavitation erosion and deposit formation.

Which one should I use for marine engines cooled with heat exchangers?
Use MTU POWER COOL® Plus Marine 30/70 for heat exchanger engines that require limited freeze protection. The pre-mixed 30/70 concentration
provides freeze protection to 5°F / -15°C.
MTU POWER COOL® Plus 6000 is available for engines that do not require freeze protection and operate with high ambient water temperatures.
MTU POWER COOL® Plus 6000 is specifically formulated to improve heat transfer in conditions where 50/50 concentrations could suffer from decreased
efficiency, particularly at wide open throttle.

How do I test MTU POWER COOL® coolants?

The MTU ADVANCE Fluid Management System is designed to test coolants, including organic acid type long life coolants; oil; diesel fuel and water-based
fluids. Testing is recommended at 6 month intervals or during usual periodic maintenance using the Basic Coolant Analysis (C-P92) that monitors coolant
corrosiveness and metal movement or the Advanced Coolant Analysis (C-P94) that identifies sources of combustion gas leaks, electrical ground problems
and system contamination. For more information on analysis and testing of your fluids test please refer to the MTU Advance Fluid Management System
guide (MTUDDPFA001).

How often do I change this coolant?

For MTU POWER COOL® Concentrate, 50/50 Premix, and 3149 coolants we recommend a change every 9,000 hours or 5 years, whichever comes
first, for MTU POWER COOL® Plus Marine we recommend a change every 9,000 hours or 3 years, whichever comes first and for MTU POWER COOL®
Plus 6000, the recommended change interval is every 6,000 hours or 2 years. Of course, you should always check proper concentrations at every preventive
maintenance interval.

What happens if I mix this with another coolant?

MTU POWER COOL® chemical composition is very stable. However, effectiveness would certainly be compromised if these coolants were mixed with others.
If mixed, the system should be drained and re-filled with the proper coolant.

Is this coolant approved by MTU?

MTU POWER COOL® products are approved for all off-highway engines offered by MTU (including legacy 2-Cycle engines).

Can I use MTU POWER COOL® 3149 in marine engines?

MTU POWER COOL® 3149 is formulated specifically for MTU Detroit Diesel Series 149 engines that do not have aluminum cooling system components.
Do not, under any circumstances, use this coolant in any engine but an MTU Detroit Diesel Series 149. This coolant does not contain silicates, and any
engine with aluminum components exposed to the engine’s coolant would not be properly protected.

What is the freeze protection for the different off-highway varieties?
