PAKSA: THE BENEFITS OF RECYCLING PLASTIC BOTTLES IN THE ENVIRONMENT

RASYONAL AT KALIGIRAN NG PAKSA

Plastics are low-cost, lightweight, and long-lasting materials that can be easily molded
into a variety of objects for a wide range of purposes. As a result, plastics output has expanded
dramatically during the previous 60 years. However, present levels of use and disposal cause a
number of environmental issues. Around 4% of global oil and gas production, a non-renewable
resource, is utilized as feedstock for plastics, with another 3–4% needed to provide energy for
their production. Plastic is used to make disposable packaging and other short-lived products
that are discarded within a year of creation. These two facts alone show that our present plastic
usage is not sustainable.
PAGLALAHAD NG SULIRANIN
Since the advent of several techniques for producing polymers from petrochemical
sources, the plastics sector has grown significantly. Plastics have significant advantages over
many other material types in terms of weight, durability, and cost (Andrady & Neal 2009;
Thompson et al. 2009a). In 2007, global polymer output, comprising thermoplastics, thermoset
plastics, adhesives, and coatings, was predicted to be 260 million metric tons per year, but not
synthetic fibers (PlasticsEurope 2008b). This implies a 9 percent annual growth rate in the past.
Thermoplastic resins account for almost two-thirds of overall output, and their use is increasing
at a rate of about 5% per year. worldwide (Andrady 2003).
Plastics today are nearly entirely made from petrochemicals obtained from fossil fuels.
Research Questions
1. Why should we do recycle plastic bottles?
2. What are the factors that are contributing to the plastic bottle problem?
3. What are the benefits in our environment through recycling?
LAYUNIN AT KAHALAGAHAN NG PAG-AARAL
The traditional recycling method involves melting plastics and processing them into new plastic
products. After recyclers melt the plastic, they make them into new products through a process
called injection molding.

These studies will help to identify the fate of different waste plastics, their impact and
management and the disposal techniques frequently used. The study also identifies a number
of significant techniques and measures for the conversion of waste plastic materials into useful
products.
1. Reduces Pollution Across Ecosystems
Greenhouse gases are a major reason for the increasing pollution levels in our environment.
They are the driving factor behind climate change – a pressing issue which the whole world is
striving to mitigate today. During the manufacturing of plastics, petroleum is burnt in turn
producing greenhouse gases. Recycling plastic instead of manufacturing it from scratch hence
indirectly reduces emission of hazardous greenhouse gases.
2. Requires Less Energy and Helps Conserve Natural Resources
Manufacturing of plastic from scratch requires much more energy compared to producing
products from recycled plastic. The energy saved can be used for other important requirements
in the economy. Also, the manufacturing process requires natural resources such as water,
petroleum, natural gas and coal as raw material. Hence, plastic recycling saves precious natural
resources. For example, petroleum, which is crucial for making new plastic products is - around
40% of petroleum consumption can be reduced by simply recycling discarded and old plastic
waste.
3. Saves Fast-depleting Landfill Space
Landfill sites are fast diminishing. The growing human population means that habitable land is
becoming more and more valuable with each passing day. Proper waste management through
reusing and recycling of plastics can save significant amount of landfill space. 7.4 cubic yards of
landfill space can be saved by recycling 1 ton of plastic.
4. Eases the Demand on Fossil Fuel Consumption
Millions of barrels of crude oil are used to fuel the demand for plastics in a single year.
Recycling plastics is the most sustainable option to reduce fossil fuel consumption. Since oil is a
finite natural resource, recycling plastic and recovering as much raw material as is possible, the
consumption of crude oil can be reduced significantly. Besides, plastic recycling also saves the
energy required to produce new materials. A ton of recycled plastic saves 7,200 kilowatt-hours
of electricity or about enough energy to run a household for seven months, according to a
study from Stanford University.
5. Promotes a Sustainable Lifestyle
Business greatly impact the lifestyle of communities in which they operate. If businesses work
along with their internal and external stakeholders towards creating awareness and promoting
positive impacts of plastic reuse and recycling, they are bound to bring about a sea change
towards environment conservation.
DISENYO NG PANANALIKSIK
In summary, recycling is one strategy for end-of-life waste management of plastic products. It
makes increasing sense economically as well as environmentally and recent trends demonstrate
a substantial increase in the rate of recovery and recycling of plastic wastes. These trends are
likely to continue, but some significant challenges still exist from both technological factors and
from economic or social behavior issues relating to the collection of recyclable wastes, and
substitution for virgin material.
