The rotator cuff is a set of muscles and tendons that surround and support the shoulder joint. Injuries to the rotator cuff are common, especially in older individuals, and can be caused by age-related wear and tear or musculoskeletal issues. A rotator cuff injury is diagnosed through physical examination including tests like the Apley maneuver, Job's maneuver, and pinch test. Treatment may involve rest, ice, physical therapy, and in severe cases, surgery followed by physical therapy.

JEAN PIER LAGOS ARAUJO THE SHOULDER: is the most mobile and least stable joint of the body. It is a complex composition made up of the proximal part of the humerus, the clavicle, the scapula and its articulations with the sternum, the rib cage and the soft tissues. ROTATOR CUFF: it is made up of a set of muscles and tendons that surround the shoulder joint and hold the head of the humerus firmly in the shoulder socket, which is not very intense. The most recurrent cause of injury is the mixture of the usual wear and tear due to age, since tendons tear more easily after the age of 40. Other reasons are various musculoskeletal pathologies that weaken the rotator cuff and predispose to injury. Those specific to this rotator cuff injury include: - Superior Apley maneuver: evaluates the rotator cuff as a whole. - Job's maneuver: evaluates the supraspinatus muscle. - Pinch test: evaluates the subscapularis tendon pinch, among others. The diagnosis of a rotator cuff injury is clinical, performed by a complete physical examination and investigation. The physical investigation will evaluate the shoulder girdle as a universal composition and its particular elements, the arcs of mobility in passive and active form, as well as muscle strength, but with special emphasis on the movements of abduction, flexion, expansion, internal and external rotation. Conservative treatments, such as rest, ice and physical therapy, are sometimes all that is needed to recover from a rotator cuff injury. If your injury is severe, you may need surgery. Physical therapy, on the other hand, is usually one of the first treatments your doctor recommends. Exercises targeted to the specific location of the rotator cuff injury can help restore flexibility and strengthen the shoulder. Physical therapy is also an important part of the recovery process following rotator cuff surgery.
