A BURNING QUESTION

On the eve of the book's publication, MN editor-in-chief Viktor Loshak sat down to a conversation with the author
in the Solzhenitsyns' Troitse-Lykovo home on the outskirts of Moscow.

"For many years I postponed this work," writes Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn in the preface to his first
scholarly work, "Two Hundred Years Together: 1795-1995," focusing on the life of Russians and
Jews in one country. The first of two volumes, covering the period from 1795 to 1916, is being
published as part* of the series, "Investigations into Modern Russian History" (publisher: Russkii
Put; editor: N.D. Solzhenitsyna).
