Description The proposed Community-Based Tourism awareness campaign is necessary to be carried out by the tour operators,
agents and government agencies related to the Malaysian tourism Industry, so being that the tourism industry is
known to be “A Cross Sectoral” type of industry by nature. Thus the official tourist attraction spots are located at rural
parts of the Sabah territory region and the same can be said for the entire Malaysia country too. There are still some
cases of no telecommunication coverage or very poor coverage at some rural areas which makes the tour operators
the best medium to out reach the rural community folks. Even the urban community are not fully aware of the
intentions the SDG’s focus. is to help educate the rural community on the Sustainable Development Goals practices
and concepts so that they don’t get Left Behind and to prepare them into adapting the new changes needed to
prevent Climate Change.COVID-19 Recovery Project will preserve and promote cultural resources in Malaysia’s rural
communities through community-based tourism. The project will (i) strengthen local capacity for community-based
tourism development and promotion; (ii) support new and existing tourism and livelihood activities; and (iii) enhance
community-based public facilities and services. So being that the tourism industry was most effected by the COVID-19
outbreak, the tour operators can barely sustain their own operations which makes in difficult for them carry extra
responsibilities. With financial assistance provided to carryout these awareness campaign simustaneously with their
tours. Meaning as they guide their custonmers to the destinations in the surrounding rural community spots, with
expenses paid for, they are able to despatch Sustainable agents to go carryout discussions and workshop type
approaches with prior arrangements and have notified all relevant authorities.

Project Rationale and Linkage to Sabah terrritory is endowed with numerous heritage sites that draw over 5million foreign visitors annually. Currently
Country/Regional Strategy tourism is
Overconcertrated on the COVID -19 issue which leads to imbalanced economic growth especially across all states, and
creates mounting pressure on the Sabah region heritage sites. While there are heritage sites outside Sabah region,
when tourism visits are made they are often daytrips that start and end in tourist hubs. Despite proximity to heritage
sties, the surrounding villages are barely visited, and villagers cannot participate in the tourist trade which is
monopolized by outsider tour operators.
Impact Local Community income revenue at lowest level , locally made tourism products and souvenirs as usual additional
income for the rural community folks lost and destinations diversified (Tourism Development Strategic Plan 2021-
2022)
