Pyrenean Ibex

The bucardo, or Pyrenean ibex, calf born

through cloning was an historic event: the
first "de-extinction", in which a lost
species or sub-species was resurrected.
... It was perfectly adapted to life in its
mountain habitat, and to survive the
extreme cold and snow of winter in the
Pyrenees.
Extinction. The Pyrenean ibex was one of
four subspecies of the Iberian ibex. ... The
last natural Pyrenean ibex, a female named
Celia, was found dead on January 6, 2000.
Although her cause of death is known (she
was killed by a fallen tree), the reason for
the extinction of the subspecies as a whole is
a mystery

According to the IUCN, the Walia ibex is

endangered, with only about 500 of their
kind left. One species, the Pyrenean ibex,
was declared extinct in 2000. However, it
may not be gone forever.
