Lord Jagannath,
Baladev, and
Subadra come
here on Ratha
Yatra & stay for 7
days
Why do They stay there for 7 Days every year?
MALAYSIA

Kind Indradyumna, who built the

main temple did not want any sons, so
his dear wife, Gundica was upset.
Lord Jagannath assured her that He
will be her son and stay with her for 7
days every year
Gundica = Vrndavana
1 time Gundica darshan = 10 times in
Sri Mandir
On Ratha Yatra day, Jagannath tells His wife Lakshmi Devi
that he is going on Ratha Yatra and will return soon…. MALAYSIA
When He does not return for 2-3 days, Lakshmi Devi
starts feeling neglected & angry…. MALAYSIA
On the 5th day (HERA PANCHAMI), Lakshmi Devi decorates
Herself beautifully and comes with Her associates to Gundica MALAYSIA

Her servants arrest

the servants of
Lord Jagannath and
make them fall at
Her lotus feet!
They then beat the ratha carts with sticks! MALAYSIA

Jagannath’s servants assures Lakshmi Devi that He will return
the next day, and Lakshmi Devi goes back to Her Sri Mandir.

When Lord Jagannath returns to Sri Mandir, Lakshmi Devi, out of
anger does not allow Him. He offers Her gifts & rasagulla, and She is MALAYSIA

pacified and allows Him in.

This 5th Day - when Lakshmi

Devi goes to Gundica and breaks
the ratha carts - is known as
HERA PANCHAMI.

Lord Jagannath’s dear devotee Bandhu Mohanty lived in MALAYSIA

Jajpur, Orissa with his wife, two daughters and one son.
 MALAYSIA

They did not have

food to eat due to a
drought, he tried to
beg from the
neighbours, but no
one had enough to
give.
 Bandu Mohanty returned home,
all the while meditating on the Lord MALAYSIA

Do you have I have a

any relatives
lives in Sri
who can help Ksetra Puri
us? Dhama...

Then let us go
to Sri-Ksetra
immediately...

They arrived in Sri Ksetra 4

days later.

It was not possible to enter

the temple, so they took
darshan of Patita-pavan

Then they went near the

South Gate, to Peja Nala,
where the starch of the
cooked rice gathers - the
cows usually drink this
starch.

The family drank the Peja

water...

Bandhu Mohanty prayed,

“Oh Lord of Universe, You

are maintaining everyone
in your creation. Am I
Out of your creation?
Please bless me and my
family!”

He then fell asleep...

Lord Jagannath could not sleep because
MALAYSIA
His devotee was hungry!

He went to the storeroom and collected

varieties of delicious cakes, sweet rice,
vegetables, and dry sweets in his golden
plate.

He came to the south gate as an old

brahmana, and called “O my dear
Bandhu, please come here! O Bandhu
Mohanty from Jajpur, please accept this
food. Tomorrow I will arrange
everything for you.”
In the morning, the Pujari realised that the Golden plate was missing
called the police. They found the golden plate with Bandhu Mohanty near
MALAYSIA

Peja Nala. The police put Bandhu Mohanty in jail!

meditated on the
Lord’s Lotus feet
and asked
forgiveness
.
The Lord appeared
in the King’s dream
and asked him to
release Bandhu
Mohanty
 The King released Bandhu MALAYSIA

Mohanty and did abhishek of milk

and flowers to him.
He gave him opulent clothes and
jewels and tied a turban on his
head

The King seeked forgiveness and

arranged for a house near the
Southern Gate.

Bandhu Mohanty
was happy to stay
near his friend,
Lord Jagannath.
He served Him
along with his
family for the rest
of his life
 MALAYSIA

Whoever hears this story of Bandhu

Mohanty will be free from all sinful
activities and will never see Yama Loka!
