DIGOXIN

Digoxin causes a rise in intracellular sodium,

that triggers an influx of calcium in the heart
and increased contractility. Digoxin is a
cardiac glycoside that lowers the heart rate
whilst increasing the strength of the
heartbeat. It is used to treat heart failure and
irregular heartbeats (arrhythmias).

Side effects:
Feeling confused
Dizzy
Feeling or being sick
Loss of appetite
Diarrhea
Changes in your vision
Skin rashes

Since digoxin has a narrow therapeutic index

and necessitates close monitoring, its use is
restricted. Digoxin can induce a variety of side
effects, as well as many medication
interactions and toxicity. Despite its
drawbacks, digoxin has a place in treatment.
Patients with ventricular fibrillation, cannot
take digoxin as it could aggravate the
ventricular fibrillation. It is advisable to visit a
physician immediately if any side or adverse
effects occur.
