Niagara4 Technical Certificate Program - Briefing Notes

Introduction : What to Expect

Welcome to this Tridium training course.

This is a practical course and there will be lessons of instruction and practical lab exercises
to experience and practice many basic Niagara techniques and skills. The labs are
structured to form a small project from start to finish taking about three or so days. Additional
exercises re-enforce learning and there is a Certification lab exercise on the last day that will
check learning. A typical agenda is included in these notes.

To make the experience enjoyable for the whole group we would ask that you adopt the
following behaviours during your time with us:

Use of equipment
During the course you will be using Niagara 4 on the laptop you are connected to
together with the associated Tridium JACE hardware, as well as control devices
accessible over a selection of integration protocols. Some simulators are connected
to the control devices, and you can request the tutor to adjust these when testing
data values integrated into the Niagara application. Please do not use your
workstation for anything other than activities directed by the tutor. If you think there is
a problem with any of the equipment you are using please notify your tutor. Sessions
will be recorded for our own monitoring and evaluation.
Comfort breaks
There will be regular breaks each day but if you need to use the toilet, get a drink or
stretch your legs please do so. The course runs to a tight schedule so we will not be
able to stop activities outside of the allotted breaks.
Mobile phones and laptops
We would ask that you do not use your mobile phone or own laptop for emails etc
during the classroom session. If you need to take a call which cannot be taken during
a break then please notify your tutor and leave the room promptly to take the call.
Tips on your computer setup
Find comfortable location where you can work undisturbed.
Use wired connection to your router/network rather than use WiFi if it is unstable.
Use second monitor connected to your pc if available for viewing instructions.
Use camera in Zoom meeting so you can fully join in with the class.
Your Comfort
You will be sitting and working at your workstation for several hours during the
course. It is important that you are comfortable, are seated correctly, and can see the
screen effectively. If you have any difficulties using your setup or have specific
requirements, please advise your tutor.
Respect for your class colleagues
The class is made up of a variety of individuals who will learn about Niagara in the
best way which suits them. No question is too easy or too difficult so please ask. The
course schedule is demanding so please following the guidance given by the tutor. If
you complete a task quickly please review your work and then wait quietly before
proceeding to the next task. There may be optional tasks which you can complete to
consolidate your learning. These will be available from your tutor.
