Problem 1: Modify the Excel file to the second-order central difference scheme and
examine the diffusion when the diffusion number d = 0.1, 0.5, 0.6!

From the three figures above we can see that the waves are characterized by its
symmetrical shaped and constant wave length. We can also observe that the peak of the
length also remains at the original position. These characteristics are clearly different than
the upwind difference scheme for the advection terms where we can observe a change in
the wave length as well as a position shift of the peak wave amplitude. We can also start to
see unstable behavior when the diffusion number is 0.5 and highly unstable behavior when
its value is 0.6 (d > 0.5) as was described in the Neumann method.
Problem 2: What was the most useful/meaningful thing you learned during this session?
Understanding the fundamentals of discretization of the advection and diffusion terms,
how we can implement them and how it can affect the behavior of a wave.
