This is to certify that the Kasturi bai Girls high school situated in
16’th Division, Eluru one town consisting 25 no class rooms, 5 no toilet
blocks, capacity of water tank is 5000 litres, total extent of the land of
the school is of 1.08 acres, total built up area including all blocks,
utilities, toilets are 13454 Sq ft, plinth area of the existing 25 no class
rooms 9083.20 Sq ft, present strength of girl students in this school is
1121. The proposed seven additional Class rooms under Nadu-Nedu
Phase-II are to be constructed over this school first floor.

The existing school building of Kasturi bai municipal high school

(girls) is a reinforced cement concrete framed structure with infilled
masonry walls comprising ground plus upper floor only. Structure is
constructed with R.C.C columns and beams. The plastering has been
done in cement mortar. Necessary doors and windows have been
provided to the entire existing building. Necessary required provisions
are also provided to run the 25 no class rooms.

In order to evaluate the structural soundness of the building the

existing School building was inspected on 11-07-2022, checked the
structure with the detailed design calculations. Based on the visual
inspection and examination of various parts including the foundations
with special reference to class rooms.

In order to ascertain the structural soundness of the existing

school building, for the proposed additional floor non – destructive
evaluation has to be carried out. For this purpose, ultra-sonic pulse
velocity test on RC Columns & Beams: Ultrasonic Pulse Velocity test will
be conducted on RC columns and beams at random at all accessible
regions of the building in all the blocks , carbonation test- carbonation of
concrete occurs when the carbon dioxide, in the atmosphere in the
presence of moisture, reacts with hydrated cement minerals to produce
carbonates, e.g., calcium carbonate. The carbonation process is also
called depassivation, half -cell electrical potential test, cover meter
studies to map the disposition and probable dia of peripheral rebars in
RC members in order to assess the thickness of cover concrete,
disposition and probable diameter of embedded peripheral rebars and
chemical analysis on concrete samples are to be performed. Non-
destructive testing (NDT) is generally described as testing that imparts
little or no damage to concrete although it usually requires sampling or
removing a small amount. NDT has its application in all types of
structures including buildings, bridges, dams, foundations and
pavements.

strengthening of columns of ground floor and first floor is required

to be carried out to overcome the structural deficiency. As the relevant
drawings were not made available, a detailed physical measurement has
to be carried out at site by inspection of foundation system by making
trial pits in order to obtain the dimensions of the various members for
making layout drawings of the building. The dimension of typical
footings (after exposing typical column footings), masonry walls,
columns, beams have to be physically measured and recorded for
theoretical verification.

Though the existing school building is in accordance with plans it

may not be structurally sound enough though the present serviceability
of the structure is good and its scope for future development like the
construction of additional seven class rooms over first floor level may
endanger its stability. For this additional class rooms construction, the
existing school building is not structurally sound enough and adequate
to run the school.
