Create GC Key and personal document checklist

The student must look for Immigration Refugees Citizenship Canada 1. Click on the ‘Menu’ in the top left
corner and choose ‘Study’ under the Immigration and Citizenship tab 2. Now, under the section extend
your study permit3, move to how to apply section4, in Step 5 you will be directed to create an account or
sign in5. A new tab will popup asking you to either login with GC Key or Register. Click on Register and
register for an IRCC secure account with GC Key6. Once logged in the student can apply for a study permit
extension online with the existing application number. To create a personal document checklist, the
student can go the Help Center7 and generate a personal document checklist by answering the online
immigration eligibility questionnaire8. A Personal reference code for Online application will be generated

Dear Officer,

I am writing you this letter to explain some points that might have caught your attention when considering my
extension to study permit application. Please find the explanations below:

1. Quitting the original program: I have enrolled in accounting program at University of Calgary, DLI#
O18886830282, and I struggled academically with the program, hence I quit the program after completing
2 semesters.
2. Left Canada for 8 months: I left Canada as soon as I quit the accounting program as I could not get into
the marketing program right away. I spent 8 months in my home country waiting for my new program,
Marketing Degree, to start.
3. Returning to Canada and studying Marketing Degree: I came back to Calgary to join the same institution,
University of Calgary, in a Marketing Degree. Currently I have completed 1 year of my Marketing Degree.
4. Unsure of the process: I was unaware of the process to inform the IRCC about my change of program and
now in my research about extending my study permit, I have come to know that I needed to inform IRCC
of the change of program. My study permit expires in 60 days and I request you to kindly extend my study
permit and allow me complete my Marketing Degree.

I can provide you with any additional documents that you deem useful for the processing my extension of study
permit application.
