“Education is for all”. No matter what is the status you are in the community
or where you belong still Education is for everyone. When teaching all students
regardless of their cultural identification, it is vital that the teaching strategies
used are relevant and effective for the pupils. For engaged learning to take place
the educational experiences offered them must be focused to achieve learning
objectives and outcomes. It is important to ensure that all pupils are considered
as individual with varying educational needs and not to group pupils learning
paths based on their cultural identity. It is important that teachers have high
expectations of students and create positive view on the pupils within the
classroom as well as using specific strategies that may be effective in teaching
indigenous pupils.
Developing respectful, positive and productive relationship with the
indigenous people (IP) in the communities in which I teach will be the one focus
for me as a teacher. Supporting pupils to engage in a meaningful way with their
culture and the school community is one of my priority as a teacher. It concerns
me when people believe that (IP) cannot be in harmony with education.
Low literacy levels are a common and critical barrier to (IP) participating in
education. As a teacher I develop the cultural literacy of my pupils by connecting
to people, particularly young people to their culture and traditional language. I
strengthen their practical literacy by developing the skills needed for daily
activities. I improved their literacy by promoting skills in reading, writing,
speaking, and listening. I encouraged them to develop their socialization with
other pupils and perform in different activities.
Education is important for every child that enters our classroom or school
community. It is our role to find ways to engage them in their learning and
combine classroom learning with their cultural education.
