Detailed Lesson Plan in

MATHEMATICS 9
I. Objectives
At the end of the lesson the students should be able to:
1. define the six trigonometric functions of a right triangle;
2. find the values of the six trigonometric functions of a right triangle; and
3. apply the definition of the six trigonometric functions.

III. Procedure

Teacher’s Activity Student’s Activity

A. Preliminaries
Good morning class - Good morning, sir
How are you today? - Great, sir
Who is absent today? - Nobody, sir
Before we start our lesson today, will you pick up - (students will pick up pieces of scattered papers
pieces of scattered paper under your chairs. under their chair)

B. Motivation
I have here jumbled letters and I need four
students each group to form the word/s. This will
reveal our topic today. I will read a clue of of the
word to be formed: all you have to do is to
arrange the letters to form the word of today’s
title of our lesson.
1. IOOEININOTSCNFTGRNMTRC
(TRIGONOMETRIC FUNCTIONS)
- Two words
- It means that a function whose independent
variable is an angle measure usually in degrees or
radian.
So what’s the word? Trigonometric Functions, sir

C. Presentation of the lesson

Our lesson for today is Trigonometric Functions

D. Development of the lesson.

I have here a figure of a right triangle
What are the parts of the triangle? hypotenuse, two legs of the triangle, three
Angles, sir
What is the right angle? - Angle C, sir
What is side opposite to angle C? - side c
What are the 2 acute angles? - Angle A and Angle B, sir
The side opposite to angle A is _____? - side a, sir
The side opposite to angle B is _____? - side b, sir
Let us consider angle A, what is the adjacent side - side b, sir
of the angle?
What is the adjacent side of angle B? - side a, sir
What side of the triangle is the hypotenuse? -side c, sir
We will now define the 6 trigonometric functions
of angle A.
Do you still remember the 6 circular functions? -yes, sir
What are the 6 circular functions? - Sine, cosine, tangent, cosecant, secant,
cotangent
Very good.
The 6 circular functions are also the 6
trigonometric functions.
Let us define them base on the given triangle.
sin A = opposite side of <A = a
hypotenuse c
cos A = adjacent side of <A = b
hypotenuse c
tan A = opposite side of <A = a
adjacent side of <A b
csc A = hypotenuse = c
opposite side of <A a
sec A = hypotenuse = c
adjacent side of <A b
cot A = adjacent side of <A = b
opposite side of <A a
Let us have one example.
Find the value of the six trigonometric functions
of angle A if a = 5 and c = 13.
Will you draw and label the triangle. -(the student will draw and label the triangle)
What shall we do first to solve the six - Solve for side b using Phytagorean theorem, sir.
trigonometric functions of angle A?
Will you solve the measure of side b? c2 = a2 + b2
132 = 52 + b2
169 = 25 + b2
169 – 25 = b2
144 = b2
√144 = b
12 = b, sir
very good, please explain your answer ( the student will explain his answer)
Since the 3 side of the right triangle is already
known we can now solve the six trigonometric
functions.
Will you find sin A? a/c =5/13, sir
How about cos A? b/c = 12/13, sir
Next, solve for tan A. a/b = 5/12, sir
Will you solve csc A? c/a = 13/5, sir
How about sec A? c/b= 13/12, sir
And, cot A is? b/a = 12/5, sir
very good, students. is there any clarification in none, sir
our example?
Ok let us have another example (kayo na bahala
magbigay ng additional 2 example)
Do you know now how to find the values of the 6
trigonometric functions of angle A? - yes , sir

E. Generalization
1. What are the 6 trigonometric functions of
angle A? - sin A = opposite side of <A =a
hypotenuse c
cos A = adjacent side of <A =b
hypotenuse c
tan A = opposite side of <A = a
adjacent side of <A b
csc A = hypotenuse = c
opposite side of <A a
sec A = hypotenuse = c
adjacent side of <A b
cot A = adjacent side of <A = b
opposite side of <A a
2. How do you find the value of the function if
one side of the triangle is not known? - Solve first the unknown side of the right triangle
using Pythagorean Theorem, then proceed in
obtaining the value of the 6 trigonometric
functions.
IV. Application
Let us divide the class into six groups. Group
leaders please come in front get the needed - (the students will start answering the activity
materials for the activity entitled “ Pilipinas Face sheets needed for the game)
ka na Ba?” The mechanics of the game is like the
mechanics of face ka na ba of Magandang Umaga
Pilipinas. before we reveal the person behind this
figure, you have to find first the value of the
given functions.
Let us now begin the game!
(activity sheets is at the back of the lesson plan)

Did you enjoy the game?

yes, sir
You may now copy your assignment.

V. Assignment
