Application Guide for International Participants

(KSO Academy)
About the Academy
Korean Symphony International Orchestra Academy (hereby, "KSO Academy") aims
to nurture essential skills and a cooperative mind as well as provide a professional
performing experience to young musicians who dream of becoming orchestra
players. The KSO Academy plans to provide a chance for intimate cultural exchange
between domestic and international participants.
The KSO Academy offers private instruction (mentoring), lectures, chamber music
& orchestra concerts, and special programs for promising classical music players
around the world. In 2022, the academy opens to String, Woodwind, and Brass
sections.

Eligibility
• Nationality: All nationality (including Korean nationals living abroad)
• Age: Under 34 years (born after 1st January 1987)
• Education background: Undergraduate or graduate with a Bachelor’s degree
※ For enrollment, undergraduate students should be completed 2 academic years or higher.

• Sections: Strings (Violin, Viola, Cello, Double bass)


Woodwinds (Flute, Oboe, Clarinet, Bassoon)
Brass (Horn, Trumpet, Trombone)

Schedule
• Application Period: 7th February (Mon.) ~ 3rd April (Sun.), 2022 at 24:00 (KST)

• Announcement of Participants: At the end of April

• Program Period: 21st June (Tue.) ~ 9th July (Sat.), 2022

How to Apply
Please fill out the application form in English and submit with required materials via
email at audition@kso.or.kr.

Each application must contain:


1. Application Form

2. One high-quality profile picture within 3 years (in JPEG) ※ Copyright free

3. A copy of passport (in JPEG or PDF)

4. A certificate of degree/diploma, or a certificate of enrollment (in JPEG or PDF)

5. Awards and career certificate (in JPEG or PDF)

6. 4 or 5 Videos (1 solo and 3 or 4 orchestra excerpts) ※ Accompaniment is optional

▶ Video shooting is only allowed by a mobile phone.


*Camcorder, tablet, digital camera, action cam, etc. are not allowed.

*Using an application, editing, filtering, microphone, speaker, special lighting, etc. are not allowed.

▶ Video should show the applicant’s front view. *Without a mask.

▶ Video should be shot in landscape mode with the mobile phone fixed.

▶ Video should not be edited. *Each video should be a one-take.

▶ Video should be high-quality. *IOS: 1080p (30fps), Android: FHD 1920 X 1080

▶ Links to YouTube and Vimeo will be only accepted.

▶ Please check if the video was filmed without any technical problems prior to the submission.

※ DVD, USB, memory card, etc. that has been submitted by mail/courier or in-person
is not admissible.
※ If necessary, additional information may be requested.
※ If participants do not receive a confirmation of their subscription within 7 days after
the application deadline, please contact the KSO Academy secretariat.

Financial Aid

• One round trip flight ticket with economy class

• Accommodations during the academy period

• Per diems

• Expenses in Korea related to Covid-19 (mandatory quarantine, PCR test, etc.)

Under the Korean Health Authority’s regulations, participants may be asked to

provide documentation such as Covid-19 tests, vaccination certificates, etc. and/or

may be asked to undergo a period of quarantine after arrival in Korea. Expenses

for this quarantine at a government-designated facility will be borne by KSO

Academy. Participants must follow government regulations in order to participate

in the KSO Academy.

Duty

• Participants are required to strictly observe the course schedule and abide by the

rules and regulations stipulated by the KSO Academy in respect to the program.

• Participants should refrain from engaging in political activities or any form of

employment for profit or gain.

• Obtaining travel documents, visa and insurance is the responsibility of each candidate.

※ The necessary documents for visa application will be provided by KSO.

• The KSO is not responsible for any personal illness or injury of the participant,

loss, or damage to personal belongings.

Copyright and Consent

All rights to photograph, broadcast including internet live streaming, record, or

reproduce by television, internet, or any other audio-visual device shall be owned

by KSO. All programs can be open to the public. During the participation, if a

participant causes an unfavorable act or event internally and externally, which

disrupts the program, the organization reserves the right to exclude the participant

from participating in the KSO Academy.
