Biography of Lana Del Rey

Music style- baroque pop, dream pop, rock.

Elizabeth Woolridge Grant was born on June 21, 1985. She is an American singer, songwriter,
musician and record producer. Her nickname is Lana Del Rey. Her parents, Robert England Grant
(father) and Patricia Ann (mother); her siblings Caroline (younger sister) and Charlie (younger
brother).
When she was 1 year old, the family moved to Lake Placid of New York. She studied her
elementary school and one year of High School (where her mother taught her) to St. Agnes
School and during those years, she began singing in church choir, where she was the cantor (chief
singer), but then, at the age of 15, she was sent to Kent School (a school that involves physic
activities). The reason that she was sent there was cause she had some trouble with alcohol
drinking.
It seems that the family members were close to each other, cause even her uncle dealt too much
with her, he took care of her and so he also secured her financial aid. According to her family she
had trouble making friends during her teenage and early adult years. She’s even been too
preoccupied with death from a young age, that kind of caused anxiety and isolation to her. She
told us this:
“When I was very young I was sort of floored by the fact that my mother and
my father and everyone I knew was going to die one day, and myself too. I had a sort of
a philosophical crisis. I couldn’t believe that we were mortal. For some reason that
knowledge sort of overshadowed my experience. I was unhappy for some time. I got into
a lot of trouble. I used to drink a lot. That was a hard time in my life.”
After she graduated the Kent School, she moved to Long Island with her ucle and her aunt,
working there as a waitress, to kind of rehabilitate. There, her unlce taught her some chords on
guitar, with which she realized that she could write lots of songs. She then started performing in
nightclubs around Long Island, where she also started realizing that her singing was getting
serious, even though she didn’t plan on pursuing it. She also performed in nightclubs of New
York.
After this, she went in The Bronx at Fordham University, to study phylosophy (metaphysics),
which she also majored it. The reason that she chose to study this, is related to her early
problems. It was because as she said: it
"bridged the gap between God and science... I was
interested in God and how technology could bring us closer to finding out where we
came from and why."
She did not stop and she graduated Bachelor of Arts. She explains the reason why she went into
music indystry saying:
I wanted to be part of a high-class scene of musicians. It was half-
inspired because I didn't have many friends, and I was hoping that I would meet people
and fall in love and start a community around me, the way they used to do in the '60s.
...During these years, she was always writing and singing, and after all this story she began her
real career of music with lots of songs (all related to her life) and then she also acted in a short
film “Poolside”.

And so on Lana’s truly LIFE began....

Something short about her style

Lana has a unique style. She’s so caught up to early years (50’, 60’...) and the funn that was then.
As she said:
"I wasn't even born in the '50s but I feel like I was there."
