1. Introduction of the project/Background information

Navitus Chemicals Private Ltd. (NCPL) has been conceptualized to manufacture an array of
divergent path-breaking intermediates valued in domain of Communicable diseases vertical as
well as non-Communicable diseases vertical.
The communicable diseases are major public health problem in the country. To control and
eliminate various communicable diseases specific national health programmes are being
implemented in the country. The National Vector Borne Disease Control Programme
(NVBDCP) is being implemented for control of Malaria, Dengue, Chikungunya and Japanese
Encephalitis (JE) and elimination of Kala-azar and Lymphatic Filariasis. Around 1 million cases
of malaria are being reported annually through public health system. 25,000-75,000 confirmed
dengue cases are being reported under NVBDCP annually in the country with case fatality ratio
of < 0.5%. Among the six diseases, Malaria, Kala-azar and Filaria have specific drug for
treatment. Even after achieving elimination of Kala-azar and filaria, drugs for these diseases will
continuously be required till eradication is being achieved. Malaria is outbreak- prone disease
and continuous availability of drug is to be ensured. There should be mechanism for sustenance
of production and uninterrupted supply of quality drugs. Outside India all African nations are
major consumers of anti-Malarial drugs.
7-Ethyl tryptophol is the starting material used in the manufacturing of Etodolac, which is used
as anti-inflammatory. 4-n- butyl resorcinol is an important compound used in skin whitening
creams. To name a few companies like Lupin, IPCA, Emcure are manufacturing Etodolac. These
companies are totally dependent on Chinese suppliers for 7-Ethyl tryptophol. The aim of the
company is to replace these Chinese suppliers by providing quality material at competitive price.
NCPL will not limit itself only in pharmaceuticals sector but also manufacture speciality
chemicals. In these sectors there is a huge demand for intermediates, which at present is fulfilled
by China. NCPL proposes manufacturing of Oxirane and intermediates used in manufacturing of
drugs important in COVID-19 treatment in immediate pipeline. Oxirane is used in Lumefantrine
intermediate.4,7-Dichloroquinoline is a starting material of Chloroquine & Hydroxychloroquine,
5-Chloro-2-Pentanone is a side chain material of Chloroquine & Hydroxychloroquine and 6-
Bromo-3-hydroxy pyrazine-2-carboxamide, an important starting material of Favipiravir-
Antiviral currently used in the trials for the treatment of COVID-19.

The company shall leverage the following advantages of the products:

1. Reduced production costs with improvement in the supply chain management as API will
be manufactured in India.
2. Guaranteed higher yields with costs in line with Chinese products.
3. Reduction in imports from China gives foreign currency benefit.
4. Reduction in stock holding and waiting time of API manufacturer in India
5. Process scalability to meet market requirement.
6. Small but important contribution to make India self-reliant in the field of API.
7. Generate foreign currency through export market.

1.4 Demand-Supply Gap

Malaria is outbreak- prone disease and continuous availability of drug is to be ensured. There
should be mechanism for sustenance of production and uninterrupted supply of quality drugs. 7-
Ethyl tryptophol is the starting material used in the manufacturing of Etodolac, which is used as
anti-inflammatory. 4-n- butyl resorcinol is an important compound used in skin whitening
creams. To name a few companies like Lupin, IPCA, Emcure are manufacturing Etodolac in
India. These companies are totally dependent on Chinese suppliers for 7-Ethyl tryptophol &
covid related drugs.

1.5 Imports vs Indigenous production

The proposed products have huge demand in pharmaceutical industry, cosmetic and other
industries. At present, this huge demand for intermediates is fulfilled by China. The proposed
production unit will help to reduce reliance on import of the bulk drugs and intermediates from
China. Demand for Oxirane in India is 50 tons per month whereas the indigenous production is
less than 5.0 ton per month. Companies like Cadila & Glenmark are making Covid products for
which they are dependent on Chinese suppliers.

1.6 Export Possibility

The proposed products are having demand in Indian as well as International market. There will
be the possibility of export of drugs to African nations as these countries are major consumers of
anti-Malarial drugs.

1.7 Domestic/export Markets

The proposed manufacturing of products shall cater to the needs of domestic market by
supplying intermediates and there is potential for exports.

Material balance:
The data submitted is from lab batches. The project proponent is confident of achieving better
recoveries of solvents in plant, as the processes are in closed loop & reactors will be equipped
with primary & secondary condensers. Low boiling solvents recovery will have secondary
condensers with -8°C brine solutions which will help to improve recovery percentage resulting
in better material balance.

3.7 Climatic data from secondary sources

The climate of Nagpur can be broadly divided into three important seasons of summer, winter
and monsoon. Almost throughout the summer (March-June), the maximum temperature remains
beyond 40 degree Celsius. Sometimes it may be as high as 48 degree Celsius. Monsoons (July-
September) take its charge in the month of June. It showers maximum in the months of July and
August. The minimum temperature recorded around 12 degree Celsius in winters (October-
January) and sometimes even dips down below that level in the month of February. Nagpur city
experiences a low pressure in the end of May month resulting in the wind blowing at a speed of 6
m/s or more and for the rest part of the year; the speed remains 2 to 3 m/s.
Annual wind rose prepared from daily surface wind data recorded for 1971 to 2000 at Nagpur
(Sonegaon) indicates that the most frequently occuring direction is from west (W) followed by
winds from east (E) and northwest (NW). The frequency of winds from west (W), east (E),
northwest (NW), southwest (SW) and northeast (NE) are 8%, 8%, 8%, 7% and 7% respectively.
Annual strongest wind, those greater than 11mps come from west W) direction. Annual wind
rose for Nagpur (Sonegaon) is shown in Figure 3-1:

 Activated Carbon Filter
 Treated water Tank
Screen Chamber
Overflow from septic tank comes to Screen Chamber. Screen Chamber is constructed in R.C.C.
at a level of inlet Sewage shall be provided with a screen. This will remove the floating matter
present in the incoming Sewage like plastics, fibers and any other floating material.
Raw Sewage Sump
This tank serves as the holding tank for the incoming Sewage. The overflow of sewage from
septic tank after passing through septic tank is collected in this tank. This will help in loading the
sewage with a consistent flow and will accommodate the variation in flow during the peak
period. From here it is pumped to the MBBR in require steady rate for the biological process and
reaction. This sump would be constructed in RCC.
Moving Bed Bio Reactor
MBBR unit will be equipped with a grid of piping and air diffusers through which compressed
air is passed and distributed throughout the tank in the form of fine bubbles using diffusers. PVC
fill media in the form of Moving bio carriers will also be provided for the immobilization of the
additional bio mass. The PVC Bio carriers increases the contact period of air and water and helps
in maintaining the MLSS in aeration tank. Here fine bubble flexible EPDM membrane diffusers
will aerate Sewage along with Bio carriers In MMBR the organic impurities will get oxidized
with the help of microbial organism in to inorganic form. For the first run of the plant the
microbial culture is brought from outside and as the culture grows then the sludge from the
settler acts as the culture.
Secondary Tube Settler
A Tube Settler shall be provided for the settlement of fully aerated Sewage from MBBR unit.
The Settling Tank shall be provided with Tube Deck. Settled sludge at the bottom of Tube Setter
will be discharged to sludge drying beds as per operational requirements. This Sludge being fully

sludge drying beds and further it will used as manure.

Sludge Drying Beds
In the extended aeration system, the sludge is sufficiently mineralized and does not need any
further treatment before dewatering and deposal. Drying Beds with filtration through sand bed
will be provided where sludge will be dewatered by filtration through sand bed and drying of
dewatered sludge by solar radiation. Sludge Drying Beds will be constructed in brick masonry
with a sand media supported by gravel bed with suitable under drain system.
Clarified Water Tank
Overflow from Secondary Tube Settler i.e. Clarified water will further be collected at the
Clarified water tank for further filtration.
Dual Media Filter
Overflow from tube settler i.e. Clarified water may contain some fine particulate suspended
matter, hence to remove these suspended impurities the clarified water would be pumped
through dual media filter. The media used would be graded quartz sand and Anthracite. Dual
media Filter is fabricated out of FRP Dual media filter will be provided with Suitable media,
piping & Valves for backwashing arrangement.
Activated Carbon Filter
Clear water from Dual media Filter is passed through Activated carbon Filter, where it is passed
through the bed of Activated Carbon. This helps in further improving the quality of outlet water
by removing the residual odour and colour. Activated Carbon filter will be provided with
suitable media, piping & valves for backwashing arrangement.
Treated Water Tank
Output from Activated carbon Filter i.e treated water will further be collected at the Treated
water tank before disposal or reuse in gardening / toilet flushing. But before that it is subjected
for chlorination for de-nitrification. Chlorine solution will be added for disinfection. Chlorine
dose will be adjusted to maintain the residual chlorine concentration of 0.5 to 1 ppm.
