1. Bishnoi (sometimes spelled Vishnoi) is a Hindu tribe that lives in India's western Thar Desert
and northern states. Guru Jambheshwar (also known as Guru Jambhoji, Guru Jambha Ji) gave
them a list of 29 principles/commandments to follow (1451-1536). They are a Vaishnav
Sampraday sub-sect. The Bishnoi Panth has an estimated 10,00,000 adherents in north and
central India as of 2019. [3] Shree Guru Jambheshwar founded the group in 1485 in Samrathal
Dhora, and his Shabadwani teachings consist of 120 shabads. For the next 51 years, he travelled
across India preaching. Guru Jambhoji's preaching motivates both his disciples and
environmental activists. The Bishnoi Community is made up of people from various castes in
North India, but the majority are from the upper castes.

2. Ecotourism is now defined as “responsible travel to natural areas that conserves the
environment, sustains the well-being of the local people, and involves interpretation and
education” (TIES, 2015). Education is meant to be inclusive of both staff and guests.

3. Habitat destruction (also termed habitat loss and habitat reduction) is the process by which a
natural habitat becomes incapable of supporting its native species. The organisms that previously
inhabited the site are displaced or dead, thereby reducing biodiversity and species abundance.
Habitat destruction is the leading cause of biodiversity loss.

4. Rain water harvesting is collection and storage of rain water that runs off from roof tops,
parks, roads, open grounds, etc. This water run off can be either stored or recharged into the
ground water. A rainwater harvesting systems consists of the following components:

● catchment from where water is captured and stored or recharged,


● conveyance system that carries the water harvested from the catchment to the
storage/recharge zone,
● first flush that is used to flush out the first spell of rain,
● filter used to remove pollutants,
● storage tanks and/or various recharge structures.

5. The primary objective of the Rio 'Earth Summit' was to produce a broad agenda and a new
blueprint for international action on environmental and development issues that would help guide
international cooperation and development policy in the twenty-first century. Also it includes
that states should recognize and duly support their identity, culture and interests and enable their
effective participation in the achievement of sustainable development. The environment and
natural resources of people under oppression, domination and occupation shall be protected.
