1. Define physical fitness.

Physical fitness refers to the ability of your body systems to work together efficiently to allow
you to be healthy and perform activities of daily living. Being efficient means doing daily
activities with the least effort possible. A fit person is able to perform schoolwork, meet home
responsibilities, and still have enough energy to enjoy sport and other leisure activities
2. What are the components of physical fitness and its meaning?
Cardiovascular endurance- is the ability of the heart and lungs to work together to provide the
needed oxygen and fuel to the body during sustained workload.

Muscular strength- Is the amount of force a muscle can produce

muscular endurance- is the ability of the muscles to perform continuous without fatiguing.

Flexibility- is the ability of each joint to move through the available range of motion for a
specific joint.

Body composition- is the amount of fat mass compared to lean muscle mass, bone and organs.

3. Types of stretching
Active stretching- this technique adopts and holds a pose while exclusively utilizing the muscles
within the group that’s being targeted.

Passive stretching- this type of stretching is excellent for enhancing your balance, as well as your
flexibility by holding a position or a pose gravity or by hand.

Dynamic stretching- these are lively stretches that rely on momentum to flow through repeated
movements.

PNF Stretching- this refers to a set of techniques that involve table stretching and the help of a
certified stretch therapist.

4. What are the four fundamental principles involved in training for fitness and its meaning.
Specificity- the stresses that are applied to the body in training must be the same as those
experienced in your chosen sport or adventure.

Individualism- this is a crucial principle, the fundamental fact that everyone is different!
Everyone responds to training in a different way.

Progression-this is all about the need to gradually increase the workload that you put your body
through.

Overload- overtraining is a very common problem and comes about when you don’t get enough
rest during your training schedule.
