Mikro-Atomizer operating principle. Chem, 38, 672 (1946). lind. Eng series of products; similar finenesses are obtainable on the other sizes. The Mikro-Atomizer is also used to grind cocoa with cocoa- Dutter content varying from 12 to 23 per cent but requires refrig- eration when producing a produet which is 995 per cent through 100 mesh and 97.5 per cent through 200 mesh, The MikroBud pulverizer (Pulverizing Machinery Co) is @ verticalshaft clasifier unit with builtin classification, This unit ‘was superseded by the Mikro-ACM pulverizer, and its only appli- cation is in the chocolate industry for grinding of cocoa powder. ‘The Mikro-ACM pulverizer (Fig. 851) is a pin mill with the feed being carried through the rotating pins and recycled through an attached vane classifier. The material to be ground is conveyed from a hopper by means of a motor-driven feed screw to the pin rotor, where breakup of material occurs. Particles are entrained by an air stream which enters below the pin rotor, and they are carried up between the inner wall and the shroud ring with bafles which decrease air swirl. Particles are then deflected inward by an airdispersing ring to @ vane-rotor classifier, The rotor is sepa rately driven through a speed control which may be ajusted inde: ‘pendent of the pin rotor speed. Acceptable particles pass upward through the exhaust and to a collector. Oversize particles are carried downward by the internal circulating air stream and are returned to the pin rotor for further reduction. The constant flow of air through the ACM maintains a reasonable low temperature ‘which makes it ideal for handling heat-sensitive materials, Typical capacities are given in Table 827. The mill is built in two sizes: model 10 and model 60. ‘The airswept pulverizer (Schutz-O'Neill Co. isa horizontal ham- mer mill consisting of two to four rows of fixed hammers mounted fon rotating plates, Fineness of the product is controlled by a ‘Separotor shott an tere out J Deering Wong a \ SN fre — + ni Cee ead Yeo Tak tf f | A {Pomme Fie, 8:51. Co.) employs one or mors bater plates, around the periphery of which are attached rigid ham ners of hard metal. It is driven within a casing at clearances of tinal fractions of an inch, the periphery of which is generally V-oxt Fig. 859), ‘The grinding ring has provision for cooling ith liqu d ‘direct contact with its periphery. Feed enters around the dr ving shaft and is first broken by breaker plates on the frst disk, It chen travels circumferentially with an axial component to a claist ying, chamber, in which is a separately driven and controlled rotor with vanes. ‘The volume of air carries the fine particles inwani t> an axial discharge opening, while the coarse particles are kept cut vard by centrifugal force. ‘They discharge into a tailings retu-n line, along with some of the air, and return to-a low-pressure area near the axis of the inlet, Performance data of this mill are given in Table 828 Table 8.27.
