Drawing templates

You can also accomplish the same thing using Drawing Templates. This
procedure varies slightly from the File New operation in that here you first
open the master model part, then select a Drawing Template from your
resource bar. When you import the Drawing Template, a new master model
drawing is created. The template is then added to it and the master model
part you previously opened becomes a component of the work part.
Drawing Templates are based on XML functionality which allow you to
access standard templates containing drawing formats, title block text, and
predetermined drawing views.
The template files are established by you or your company according to your
standards. They can include:

14 • Selection and placement of desired views

• Specified view scales.

• Standard notes and symbols.

• Parts Lists (Bill of Materials).

• Multiple drawing sheets.

Accessing drawing templates

Drawing Templates are accessed from the resource bar. The resource bar
points to a Drawing Template Resource file (.pax).
This file (.pax) points to the individual drawing format files.
NX supplies you with a set of drawing templates along with a .pax
file located in your UGII_ROOT_DIR under the html_files folder. For
more information on Drawing Template Resource Files, refer to the
Help Documentation.

The new master model drawing part is created and the drawing
formats for SH1 and SH2 are added to it.

14

Three drawing views are automatically added to SH1. Notice the

name that has been assigned to this part, drf_fork_caster_dwg 2.
The _dwg2 extension indicates that there are two drawing sheets
in this part. Also, the system used some predetermined format
settings. Objects have come in on their original layers, and the
BODY reference set was used.

Step 5: Check the assembly structure in the Assembly Navigator.

This new part file with the drawing of the fork is a master model
assembly drawing.
