Software-Update Guide V3.61 / V5.57
Attention!
Before the update, please check whether the yield data of the previous day are
available on the device and can be displayed. Do not start the software update if
the yield data of the previous day are not available. Please contact the KACO
service in this case.
Because of changes in the P(U) procedure and parameters, this feature may not
show the same behaviour as before, after the SW update. P(U) should therefore
be re-parametrized.

To successfully install this software, it is required to have V3.00 or newer

already installed on your device. If this is not the case, please perform a
software update to V3.00 before continuing. Afterwards you may install the
desired software.
To ensure a safe process of upgrading or downgrading, we strongly recommend
not to change the file name of the software packages.

Performing a Software-Update: Step by Step

To apply a software update to KACO inverters, please use an empty, FAT32-formatted USB flash drive with at
least 128 MB of free space left (external hard disk drives or card readers are not supported!). Copy the desired
software package (KUF file) to the prepared mass storage device (root directory).

Figure 1: Software found Figure 2: Warning DC supply

When you plug the USB flash drive containing the software update into the inverter, a message will appear on
the display (see Figure 1). To proceed with the update, confirm the notification dialog with “Yes”. To cancel the
update process and close the shown window, confirm with “No”. You can change the selection using the
arrow buttons and confirm by pressing the “Enter” button.
If the DC supply is too low (for example at night) a warning message appears on the display (see Figure 2). By
confirming with “Yes”, the warning will be skipped and you can proceed with the update (at own risk), the
update process will be canceled by confirming with “No”.

Caution! Do not power off DC during the software update process and perform the update during
daytime or at a sufficient DC supply level! For a 2 stage software update to V5.57, the USB stick
shall be removed after the message “Software update successful” is shown on the display,
contrary to the message shown on the display during the update process.
In other cases the USB stick can be removed, if the message appears "The USB stick can now be
safely removed" on the display! Otherwise the update of some critical system components may fail and
the inverter may be damaged!
After confirmation the device will reset and the new software package is about to be installed. During the
installation you can follow the current status on the display. This process may take several minutes. After the
installation is complete, an automatic check of all software components will be performed and an appropriate
notification message appears on the display. (see Figure 3 / Figure 5)

Hardware dependency of the SW upgrade:

In 2017 the production of the Powador 15.0-20.0 devices has been switched to a new hardware platform.
In the following there are 2 different hardware versions:
Older Powador 6.0-20.0 TL3 devices (older HW):
Until switching of hardware platform produced Powador 6.0-20.0 TL3 devices.
New Powador 15.0-20.0 TL 3 and blueplanet 15.0 TL3 / 20.0 TL3 devices (new HW):
Now and in the future produced blueplanet 15.0 TL3 und 20.0 TL3 devices and after switching the hardware
platform produced Powador 15.0-20.0 TL 3 devices.
This software package consists of a zip-file containing 2 KACO SW packages in KUF format:
1. V3.61
2. V5.57
These two KUF files must be copied to the USB stick.

Depending on the hardware configuration of the inverter is either a one-step upgrade to the V3.61 or a two-
stage upgrade over V3.61 to V5.57 possible.
The possible upgrade scenarios will be described in the appendix

To control the success of the software update manually, please refer to the version of each single system
component. To do this please have a look at the dialog “SW version” in the information menu and compare the
versions with the ones in the chapter “Check installation manually”.

Performing a Software-Update: Quick Installation Guide

1) Turn on AC and DC and check these voltages, before you start the software update.
2) Plug the USB drive into the inverter and confirm with “Yes” by pressing the “Enter” button.
3) Follow the messages on the display and do not remove the USB flash drive during the update process.
4) Wait until the installation has been finished and the message from figure 1 appears again.
5) In the case of new hardware, after the update to V3.61, the SW package V5.57 is detected on the USB
drive and the update process is automatically executed again. Therefore, the USB stick may not be
removed, until the update to V5.57 is complete and will be shown on the display. Also when the display
shows, that the USB-Stick can be removed.
6) Check the installed software versions in the information menu dialog.

SW-Versions to check
o PKT: V3.61 o PKT: V5.57
o ARM: V4.61 (28F9) o ARM: V6.54 (67F9)
o CFG: V5.1436 (EDA7) o CFG: V6.3314 (BD08)
o DSP-AC: V2.10 (F4B7) o DSP-AC: V4.17 (A7A0)
o DSP-DC: V2.06 (EA26) o DSP-DC: V4.03 (C141)

Checking the correct software version requires DC power supply because all system components have to be
present (the update of the menu dialog may take some seconds). Please note that the software versions may
vary according to the chosen country. In those cases check the Build-Code inside the brackets of each
software version to verify that the update was successfully finished.
