Lone Star
Salute
For patriotic punch, you can’t beat this
stellar design. Carefully-placed values of red and
blue give amazing depth and movement to the design,
and strip-piecing instructions simplify construction.

Planning
Honor those who serve by displaying this glowing red,
white, and blue quilt made of fabrics from The Jinny Beyer
Palette collection by RJR Fabrics. This stunning star will add
beauty to any 4th of July celebration.

Strip piecing the Lone Star significantly reduces the time

required to make this patriotic classic. Handle all bias edges
carefully to avoid distortion.

ruler, make crosshairs in corners by drawing a
short line G˝ from each raw edge.

6 Aligning match points, stitch together 2 large

diamonds, starting and stopping at match points
and backstitching to secure, to make quarter-star.
Make 4. Sew together to complete star. Set in

Quilting and Finishing
8 Layer, baste, and quilt. Using matching thread
throughout, Ramona machine quilted curved
diamonds in each dark red floral and navy texture
diamond. Curlicues and petals are stitched in the
remainder of the small diamonds. Feathers are
Assembly Diagram
stitched in the white/gray squares and triangles.
Each border features a continuous feathered
vine. Bind with navy texture.

Add Mitered Borders

Center and pin pieced border strips to sides, top,
and bottom of quilt. Strips will extend beyond quilt
top. Starting and stopping G˝ from quilt corners and
backstitching to secure, sew strips to quilt. Press
seam allowances toward quilt center. Fold quilt on
diagonal, right sides together. Align border strip raw
edges and border seams at the G˝ backstitched
point; pin together. Align ruler edge with fold,
extending ruler completely across border. Draw line
from the backstitched point to the border raw edges.
Stitch on drawn line, backstitching at both ends.
Press seam open. With quilt right side up, align
45°-angle line of square ruler on seam line to check
accuracy. If corner is flat and square, trim excess
fabric to G˝ seam allowance. Repeat for all corners.
