It is interesting that very different people sometimes meet and become friends…or husband and wife.
Andy and Rosa are married, but they are very, very different.
Andy is a journalist, and he works a lot. In the evening, he likes to relax. He does not want to be active. He
likes restaurants and cafés, but he does not like nightclubs or sports centers. He does not dance or play
sports. On the weekend he goes (1) to concerts, and he goes (2) shopping, but he doesn’t go (3; use
contractions) for walks or to the gym.
Rosa works in an office. Her job is very boring, and she likes to do exciting things in the evenings and on
weekends. In the evening she likes (4) to go to nightclubs or to the sports center, but she doesn’t like (5;
use contraction) restaurants. On the weekend, she goes (6) for walks and to the gym. Sometimes she goes
(7) to a concert with Andy, but she doesn’t go (8; use contraction) shopping at all.

People say that members of a family often have the same abilities. Look at people in different jobs, and
you can see that it’s true. Here are some examples:
§ In sports, we have the famous soccer brothers Gary and Phil Neville. In tennis, we have the
Williams sisters, Venus and Serena. And in skiing, we have Maria and Susanne Riesch.
§ In show business, everyone knows Julia Roberts. Not everyone knows her brother Eric, but he also
acts. Jaden Smith and his sister Willow are both actors and singers, and the brothers Joel and
Ethan Coen are both famous for her interesting movies they make together.
§ But it isn’t only brothers and sisters – Kingsley Amis and his son Martin are both famous British
writers, and Luke Russert is a journalist in the US.
