QUESTION

How many
tablespoons of salt
should be added to
a glass of water will
be enough to make
the egg float to the
top?
HY POTHE SI S

I think that 3 tablespoon of salt will give the glass

of water enough density to make the egg float to
the top. Three is the magic number
• Cup of water

• Teaspoon

• Salt

• Egg
P RO C E D U R E

• First step: Grab a glass and fill it up with one

cup of water
• Second step: Drop an egg in the cup of
water and watch the egg float to the bottom
• Step three: Take a tablespoon of salt and
dissolve it in the water
• Step four: If the egg hasn't floated, continue
adding tablespoons of salt until it does
R E S U LT S

• For 1 cup of water,

1 tablespoons of salt
added to the water is
enough to make the
egg float.
CONCLUSION

I was wrong about the amount of salt that would make

the egg float. I thought that 3 tablespoons would be
enough to change the density of the water and would
make the egg float. But it was actually only one, and I
remember not filling the teaspoon up all the way, so
maybe even less.

Science Fair

I’m not used to making slideshows, especially ones with so little text. I’m glad this
project was very simple and presenting it digitally wasn’t too hard. I wished I chose a
different experiment that would’ve let me use charts, but this one wasn’t needed.

Standard 1.3.a: Students plan and employ effective research strategies to locate
information and other resources for their intellectual or creative pursuits.

The science fair project has been around forever, and I think it’s best that it can be
displayed digitally. Not only will it teach students how to make slideshows, but it can be
a more creative way to display their experiments. And it can be shown online instead
of in person, which can be helpful in different ways.
