SCOUT HALL PRE-SCHOOL LIMITED

PARENTAL INVOLVEMENT POLICY

The Pre-School recognises that children will get the most benefit from Early Years education when
parents and Pre-School work together. We aim to support parents as their children’s first and most
important educators by involving them in their children’s education and in the full life of the Pre-
school.
When we refer to “parents” we mean both mothers and fathers, including the natural parents, step
parents and parents who do not live with their children but have contact with them and play a part in
their lives. “Parents” also include same sex parents as well as foster parents.

Procedure for including all parents:

 We will endeavour to involve all parents including fathers or parents who work or live apart
from their children by using differing strategies as appropriate.

 We consult parents to find out what works best for them.

 We ensure ongoing dialogue with parents to improve our knowledge of their children and to
support their families.

 We inform all parents about how our Pre-School is run and its policies through written
information and regular informal chats.

 We ensure that parents are given information on a regular basis about their child’s progress
and have an opportunity to discuss it with staff, usually your child’s Keyperson.

 We involve parents in the shared record keeping about their children – either formally or
informally – and ensure parents have access to their children’s written developmental records.

 We provide opportunities for parents to contribute from their own skills, knowledge and
interests by volunteering to help in the group on an occasional or regular basis.

 We welcome parental involvement through our Pre-school Facebook Closed Group page
and/or PTA group which gives parents opportunities to meet other parents, as well as
organising fun events to enhance the Pre-school year.

 We involve parents in the process of evaluating and improving our Pre-school by seeking their
opinions through our annual questionnaire, sent out during the Summer term.

 We make known to all parents the systems for registering queries, complaints or suggestions.

 We provide opportunities for parents to learn about our Pre-School curriculum and about
young children’s learning both in the Pre-School and at home.

 We display information on our website, the Parent’s notice board and send out regular
newsletters to keep parents informed of events, “reminders” for children’s safety and
wellbeing and any training or events offered in the Fareham and Gosport area.
