A Lesson Plan in English Grade 8 that was used for my 2 nd Classroom Observation

Annotations
OBJECTIVE 16: Applied a personal philosophy of teaching that is learner-
centered (learning objectives)

Part I OBJECTIVES
D. Objectives

 The learning objectives are aligned in the content standard, performance

standard and the learning competencies. This part already shows a student-
centered learning, as the teacher aims for the student to understand the lesson
and perform independently. It is the constructivism philosophy of teaching that
is learner-centered which states that the goal of the teacher is to develop
motivated and independent learners effectively equipped with learning skills on
basic decoding of words or lines in a poem or a song.

OBJECTIVE 16: Applied a personal philosophy of teaching that is learner-

centered (instructional activities)

Part IV PROCEDURES
A. Reviewing previous lesson or presenting the new lesson

 In this part of my lesson plan, I started presenting the lesson through a game
which is also my motivation.

 In this part of my lesson, students are engaged in a fun game. A humanistic

theory of learning involves letting students enjoy learning. My Instructional
Supervisor, Ma’am Sharon Lising, always reminds me that for learning to be
effective I have to incorporate games to make students enjoy the lesson more.

Part IV PROCEDURES
F. Developing Mastery

 In this part of the lesson, I used a song that I know is very familiar to them and
I let them explore the song by using the SIFT METHOD. During my mentoring
sessions with Ma’am Sharon, she always point out that as teachers, we need to
be updated with what is happening around us as this can be used in the
development of our lessons. As a language teacher, it pays to be updated with
songs, celebrities or movies to connect with our learners.

Part IV PROCEDURES
G. Finding Practical Applications

 In this cooperative and collaborative learning, students worked together in

small groups to maximize their own and each other’s learning. Again, this is a
constructivism philosophy of teaching which that is learner-centered.

OBJECTIVE 16: Applied a personal philosophy of teaching that is learner-
centered (assessment)

Part IV PROCEDURES
H. Making Generalizations and abstractions about the lesson

 This part of the lesson encourages learners to do self-evaluation as implied in

the Humanistic Philosophy of Teaching. Here, I am encouraging the learners to
reflect on the things they have learned thereby assessing how much they gained
for the day’s lesson.
