The charts below show the changes in ownership of electrical appliances and amount of time

spent doing housework in households in one country between 1920 and 2019.

Given are the line charts reporting the percentages of three electrical devices and the number

of time weekly spent on chores.

Overall, along with the substantial increase in the percentage of electrical gadgets, time taken

for household chores remarkably dropped over the years.

In 1920, people needed up to 50 hours per week to do chores. At that time, vacuum cleaners

were not available, and only 30% as well as 40% of families possesing washing machines and

refrigerators consecutively. By contrast, time needed to do household duties was significantly

reduced to roughly 25 hours by 1960. This was because over two third of families had

washing machines and refrigerators. Noticeably, 90% was the figure for vacuum cleaners.

From 1960 to 2019, these noticeable changes could no longer be seen. By 2019, people

merely spent somewhere in the vicinity of 10 hours doing housework. The percentage for

vacuum cleaners steadily rose prior to plateauing at 100% by 2019. Meanwhile, the figure for

washing machines fluctuated around 70%, and only refrigerators witnessed a dramatic

increase of 30%, ultimately reaching 100%.
