Introduction

Introduction
This document provides detailed procedures for the installation and configuration of
the LAN option on a MAC 5500, MAC 3500, MAC 1600, or MAC 800 resting ECG
analysis system to enable communication with the MUSE Cardiology Information
System over a LAN.

NOTE
Printing a test from the MUSE system to a MAC system that is defined as a
device in MUSE setup is NOT supported by the LAN option.

Typographical Conventions
The following conventions are used in this manual.

Bold Indicates keys on the keyboard, text to be entered, or hardware items

such as buttons or switches on the equipment.

Italics Indicates software terms that identify menu items, buttons, or

options in various windows.

[Key1] + [Key2] Indicates a keyboard operation. A plus sign (+) between the names of
two keys indicates that you must press and hold the first key while
pressing the second key once.

For example, “Press Ctrl + Esc” means to press and hold down the
Ctrl key while pressing the Esc key.

Enter Indicates you must press the “Enter” or “Return” key on the keyboard.
Do not type “enter”.

[Space] Indicates that the spacebar must be pressed when typing literal strings,
such as command lines. Brackets identify the string as a key instead of
text to be typed.

Adding the Modem Service

Adding the Modem Service on 5C-5E Systems

1. The Service must now be added to the Services list at the file server.
NOTE
If you are adding a modem at the file server, you must shut down the
MUSE system before running CVADDSVC. Use the IMS application to
shut down the MUSE system as described in the MUSE Service Manual.

2. CVADDSVC is the tool that is used to add the Service to the Services list.
To add the Service you need to be logged in as a local administrator, and
then run cvaddsvc. Open a Command Prompt window.
NOTE
The password for the MUSEBkgnd user is needed to perform this upgrade.

3. For the ASYNCH CSI Modem type the following:

cvaddsvc [Space] [DomainName]\MuseBkgnd [Space] [Password] [Space]
CVIS0019 [Space] -m [Space] [3-digit modem number as recorded in the
previous section] and press Enter.
4. Use the up arrow and change the modem number to set up additional services.
Repeat as needed for each modem that was configured.
5. Close the Command Prompt window.
6. After running this command, open the Services list to verify that the service
has been added.

Adding the Modem Service on 7.x Systems

Add a modem service on each computer on which a modem was set up. For
example, if a modem was installed on a client, add the service on the client. If a
modem was installed on the server, add the service on the server.

1. Open the Modem Setup window to use as a reference for modem IDs while
adding modem services.
2. Open a Command Prompt.
3. Change to the directory where MUSE was installed.
By default, this would be Program Files\muse.

4. Type the following command in the Command Prompt window.

musesvc [space] -<modem> [space] <domain> \musebkgnd [space]
<password> [space] <modemID> [space] -cmdline:db: <sql server name>

Where:

domain = the domain or local computer name where the MuseBkgnd

account was created

password = password for MuseBkgnd account

modem ID = the modem ID assigned in MUSE Modem Setup

sql server name = name of sql server where the MUSE database resides.
For a typical installation, this is the same as the MUSE
server name.

NOTE
To see the usage for the musesvc command, type musesvc [space] ?
in the Command Prompt and press Enter

For example, to install a CSI modem with an ID of 1 on a MUSE server named

muse7server in the memorialhc domain, the command would like this:

musesvc [space] -csi [space] memorialhc\musebkgnd [space]

Muse!Bkgnd007 [space] 1 [space] -cmdline:-db:muse7server

5. Press Enter to run the command.

Copying the Configuration Capture File to the MUSE File Server

After all information has been accurately recorded in the Configuration Capture file,
append the configuration capture file with the new MAC systems you have just
configured. The file is found in the following location on the MUSE file server:

c:\mei\profile\2002783-067.txt

This file will be available to GE Service if the system requires remote service
support.

Troubleshooting

Troubleshooting
Always verify the above requirements, as well as connectors and power to the
devices before undertaking any in-depth network troubleshooting. Listed below are
some possible symptoms with suggested resolutions.

Troubleshooting Table

Symptom Possible Cause Remedy

Communication between Hardware switch ports used to MAC systems with the LAN communication option are set to
MAC and MUSE systems connect the MAC system to the “AUTONEGOTIATE” (AUTO) as the network connection mode.
is unreliable with delays or network are set to 100/FULL When a device set to AUTO connects to a hardware switch port that
dropouts (even with a Duplex. has a “Fixed” setting it will detect the speed correctly but the duplex
good physical network mode will default to HALF. Network Administrators often have
connection). hardware switch ports set to 100/FULL in an attempt to avoid device
“mismatch” errors. When two interfaces are connected to each other
with one set to AUTO and one set to full duplex mode, a duplex
mismatch results because the autonegotiation process fails and half
duplex is assumed - the interface in full duplex mode (the switch)
transmits and receives at the same time. If the interface in half duplex
mode (the cart) is transmitting at the same time and is not ready to
receive a packet, it signals a clash, and tranmissions are halted for
amounts of time based on backoff (random wait times) algorithms.
When both packets start trying to transmit again they interfere again
and the backoff strategy may result in a longer wait time before
attempting to transmit again. The result for a MAC5500 cart
attempting to send data will be a very slow or unresponsive network
connection. Data transmission becomes very unreliable.

Solution: To remedy this situation GE recommends that the

hardware switch port assigned to support a MAC5500 Ethernet
connection be set to AUTO, the same as the cart. If the customer
cannot configure to Auto/Auto, consult with ND&I for further details.

Different time out values used When a MAC 5000 system is disconnected, MUSE Serial IP will time
by MUSE Serial IP and the out within a relatively short period of time, see a broken connection,
communication card on the MAC close it, and try to re-establish it. However, the communication card
5500 system. on the cart network will reject an new requests from MUSE to open
the connection, within the 3-minute time out period, since it still
recognizes the original connection. This is due to the design of the
communication card used in the cart. It does not affect wireless
connections that use a separate client bridge (instead of the
communication card) to establish MUSE connectivity.

Solution: To avoid the problem related to the longer time out used by
the communication card on the cart, the user should power-off the cart
before disconnecting it from the network and then reconnect to the
(Continued) network before powering it up again. This closes any open connection
and renews the connection when the cart is powered up again.

(Continued COM port configured incorrectly Another factor that may affect the communication between the cart
from previous page) in Serial IP on MUSE and MUSE is the setup of Serial IP on the MUSE system.
If the Restore Failed Connection check box is not checked for the
COM Port Options in Serial IP, MUSE will not re-establish the
connection once it fails.

Solution: If connections are still intermittent or are not being restored,

verify that the Restore Field Connections box is checked in the
Serial/IP Control Panel at the MUSE Server for the connection
experiencing the problem.

communications:
1. Improper Gateway Address - would not allow proper routing.
2. Improper Subnet Mask information - would not allow enough IP
Addresses or could conflict with routing.
3. Duplicate IP Address - would cause a conflict if another device on
the network has the same address.
Although most of these issues should be addressed during the pre-
installation consultation that we provide to the customer, please be
aware that new issues can arise during the installation because of
infrastructure or personnel changes that have taken place.

Incorrect configuration. 1. Verify whether or not the setup was previously working.
2. Check the configuration based on the configuration basics above.
Important factors include the following:

„ Networking: IP Address and Listening Port.
„ Modem Setup: Modem number matching CSI Service, CSI
Service properly installed, Modem properly configured.

If the setup was not previously working, you will need to go through
the entire setup procedure to configure both sides.

If the service is not started, start the service or restart CV_SCM. If the
service is started, but appears to not be functioning, it may be
necessary to restart the service.
Note: Individual modem services can only be stopped and started
individually on MUSE 5X systems by using the CVSCTRL utility,
available from the Jupiter OLC. Modem services can also be stopped
and restarted by stopping and starting the CV_SCM service.

file server. 2. Test connectivity from the MUSE to the cart by “pinging” the IP
Address of the cart from the file server.
3. Verify whether or not any cart can communicate with the MUSE.

If other carts can transmit, the problem may be with the modem
service that is associated with the non-working cart. Follow the
steps in the above Possible Cause for the modem service not
running or not functioning properly.

4. If no carts can communicate, you should try restarting all modem

services first. If that does not help, you should verify that MUSE
clients are working, since they are using at least some of the same
portion of the wired network.
