ASSIGNMENT 7 (Summary): Thoroughly summarize and reflect upon your entire 10 hour Field

Observation Placement.

>>>

Seeing as it was my first in-person class observation, I was nervous, especially because the
class was an ECSE self-contained classroom. I had no expectations or an idea of how the class
functions especially for it being a preschool class. Personally, I expected rowdy and loud
behavior but the kids were, for the most part, quiet. A few of them did not talk at all. Overall, I
enjoyed myself watching the kids learn, get excited, and interact with each other. While there
was some behavior that needed to be corrected, the students were great and the teachers knew
how to approach and handle any situation.
I learned a lot not just about the routine and work needed for a special education preschool
class, but the special education department in general in John Hummel Elementary School. I
met all the teachers in the department and got to talk with them about their routine and the
work they do on not just a day-to-day basis but the paperwork and meetings they need during
an IEP meeting. I was able to get a peek into the life and workload of an elementary school
teacher or more specifically a special education teacher. The 10 hour field observation went by
quickly and I am hope to learn more and continue my education.
