STANDARD LESSON PLAN FORMAT

I. Describe the Class:

A sizeable fourth grade class of almost 30 students.
Balanced mixture of boys and girls.
The class contains a couple of students with a disability.
One girl has a visual impairment. Another has an attention-deficit problem.

II. Subject/Skill:
Math class / Lines

III. Objective(s):
Draw, identify, and name rays, lines, and segments.
Draw perpendicular and parallel lines.

IV. Procedures:
Step 1. Know-Want to know-Learn (K-W-L): Introduce the idea of lines to the class. Get
an idea of their current knowledge, have the class predict them, and fix any
misconceptions. Go through everything the students will learn, the knowledge
they will acquire, and the skills they will achieve.
Step 2. Music & Video: Show the students a video showcasing the different angles and
lines. It will encourage positive attitudes and excitement for the lesson.
Step 3. Note-Taking: On the board, students will be formally introduced to rays, lines,
and segments.
Step 4. Identification Together: On the board, the teacher will draw rays, lines, and
segments. And the class will identify them together. Or the teacher will ask the
class what a ray looks like and use the class to guide the drawing.
Step 5. Mix-n-Match (Group Activity): In pairs, students will be given pictures of rays,
lines, and segments, and their given names. Together, they will have to match it
together.
Step 6. Review: One-by-one students will be called to the board to draw a given ray, line,
or segment. Help is given from others if necessary.
Step 7. Individual Worksheet: Students will be given a name and will have to draw the
ray, line, or segment.

V. Materials:
Writing materials
Scissors

VI. Grouping Structures:

Heterogeneous-ability groups

VII. Modifications:
Due to the student with the visual impairment, a physical model of rays, lines, and
segments may be used. Also, when describing the difference between the lines, there is a
more descriptive understanding said to the class. During the group activity, the pictures
of rays, lines, and segments are tactile and are composed of black and bright colors.
The student with the attention deficiency is modified through the agreed upon
behavior management. During the group activity, the student is paired with a model
student.
