Monitoring of a frequently running batch job, for

which individual failures are not critical

SAP SE, Solution Manager 7.2 SP07

I have a frequently executed job. I want to get alerted/notified only,

if the job fails for a longer time period. How can I achieve this?
Summary

With Solution Manager 7.2 SP07, you can not avoid that every job failure is alerted, but you can
configure to get notified only for the case, the job is failing continuously.

On the next slides we show, how to do the configuration on the example of a job, that runs
every 10 minutes and where a notification shall be sent out only, if at least 3 or 4 job instances
fail continuously.

Example for Frequent Job

For testing purposes we let the job cancel once per hour and
continuously from 5am to 6am:
Desired behavior: Notify only for the continuous cancellation,
i.e. at ~ 5:30 am.

As of SP07: Option not to alert per Job Instance and to Autoconfirm

Settings for a job that runs every 10 min

 Set Data Collection Frequency to 5 min

 Set Summary Relevant Job Instances to 1

(i.e. make last job instance relevant for
summary rating)

 Set Data Retention Period to 30 min (thus job

failures that are older then 30 min are not
relevant any more)

 Set Send first notification after to 30 min.

 Remove flag from Alert per Job Instance (to

not get a notification for every cancelling job
instance)

Consumption: Monitoring UI

By setting Summary Relevant Job Instances to 1 after a failing instance

the summary rating is red, but after a newer successful instance the
summary rating is green again (Job instances, that are older than 30 min
are not displayed as Data Retention Period is set to 30 min.)

Option to display job instances, that are not

Summary Relevant has been introduced with SP08.

Consumption: Alert Inbox

With the different other settings we achieve, that if the job fails
continuously the failing instances are grouped into one alert
group and only if the alert is longer than 30 min a notification is
sent out (e.g. at 5:42h). The alerts are rated green 30 min after
the last failure happened, if successful instances are reported.
