 Introduction
We have created this Green Guide to provide our environmentally conscious
customers with the details necessary to make the right product choice for their
cleaning applications.
It has been produced from a global perspective but it should be noted that not
all products will be available in all regions. If you are in any doubt regarding the
availability of a product in your region, please contact your local sales office.
What is Green?
There is no universal definition of what constitutes a green product. However,
there are a number of schemes, regulations and initiatives currently in use to
demonstrate the green credentials of a product.
In Europe there are several eco labelling schemes (e.g. Nordic Swan, Bra
Miljoval and the EU Flower) that endorse green products by consideration of the
ingredients, use profile and performance of the formulation.
Sustainability is also an important consideration. Factors such as the origin of
raw materials, energy consumption and waste are taken into account when
evaluating sustainability.
Legislation too plays a part. In Europe Classification and Labelling Legislation
uses biodegradability and aquatic toxicity data. REACH considers factors
such as persistence and bioaccumulation, whilst in the US legislation such as
California’s Proposition 65 addresses environmental issues.
Clearly there are many factors that can define and demonstrate the green
credentials of a product. In this guide we do not aim to define green but provide
customers with the information to choose products which meet their own
individual definition.

The Green Criteria

Although we are trying to be as non-prescriptive as possible in this guide, we
have taken measures to eliminate certain products from the list. This is based
on a set of prerequisites thought to be applicable across the whole industry.
Prerequisites for product inclusion in the Green Guide are:
