While bias is an irresistible element when questioning and getting feedback, there are ways in which we

can avoid bias in the questions, and they can range from setting limited expectations from the answer to
using divergent thinking in the process of getting outcomes. “Divergent thinking is a process of putting
multiple ideas into pulling out a solution by forming a cognitive thought pattern, irrespective of what the
outcome is” (Brainstorming - Rules & Techniques for Idea Generation, 2017). In doing this, there is every
opportunity that the best possible option will get selected. “The napkin pitch approach is among the
multiple approaches used in feedback evaluation, and whether it is a solution to the problem or not; it
allows to look into a range of possibilities” (The Big Pitch, n.d.). Thus, when feedback is of valuable
importance, a biased approach to getting selective feedback cannot be constructive to the end-user.

If an interviewer wants to get the exact answer to the question he or she can ask leading questions.
Thus, when interviewing leading questions should be avoided while the focus should be in extracting
focus with minimum expectation. “Potential customers are approached by putting caution to the
language, and the conversation within the thought of self-discovery” (Steve Blank Moment That Led to
Customer Discovery, n.d.). A suggestive language as it is called will only give a suggestion to the
respondent a lead to the only possible answer to the question. This suggestion can be avoided by the
interviewer by not giving options while questioning. An open-ended question will keep the bias of both
the interviewer and interviewee. “Take all channels seriously and not stick to just one channel to avoid
potential bias, as you already know that the channel you chose is among the many channels fit for your
description” (Gabriel Weinberg “Bullseye Framework” (DuckDuckGo) 11, n.d.). Hence, the approach to
use the cognitive side of the approach will be a useful solution to negate the effects of bias in a
question.
