DHA COLLEGE AND SCHOOL SYSTEM

LESSON PLAN
Class: IV Subject: Math Teacher: Kiran Liaquat Time Duration: 35 minutes
Title Whole Numbers and Operations
Topic Multiplication

Aims and objectives  4-digit numbers multiplication

 Word problems involving 5-digit multiplication
Learning Outcomes/ SLO Students will be able to:
 Multiply numbers up to 4-digits by numbers up to 2-digits
 Solve word problems involving multiplication of numbers up to 5-digits by 3-
digits
Teaching Aid   Coloured chart and sheets, colour pencils, coloured markers, scissors, glue,
flash cards
 Whiteboard, markers
Methodology Interactive/participative Method

Recapitulation When starting to learn a lesson again at a higher grade with enhanced concepts,
always revise previous concepts with the students beforehand. Recall with the
students that multiplication is repeated addition. Give them a couple examples of
repeated addition sums. Revise the basic terminology used for a multiplication sum
such as in 3 x 8 = 24; 3 is the first factor or the multiplicand, 8 is the second factor or
the multiplier and 24 is the product. Revise the multiplication properties given on
pages 35 and 36 of the student book with examples. Practice multiplying 2-digit and
3-digit numbers with 1-digit numbers (with and without carrying), using the sums and
word problems given on pages 34and 35 of the student book.
Revise multiplying with numbers up to 3-digits with 1 digit and remaining zeroes such
as multiplying with 300 or 20 using the strategies given on pages 36 and 37 of the
student book. Practice the ‘break apart’ strategy to solve multiplication sums with
bigger numbers to expand and convert them in to smaller numbers and numbers with
zeroes to make solving the sum easier, such as multiplying, 84 x 6, using the concept
given on page 37 of the student book. Practice using the sums given on pages 36, 37
and 38 of the student book.
Motivational Question Write 45 x 32 on the board. Ask students how they would begin to solve it. Several
students may know the algorithm for two-digit multiplication. Complete the problem
as students indicate.
Math Lab Activity Understanding doubles as multiplication by 2 (Page # 44)
You can make the math lab activity a bit challenging by adding multiplication tables of
higher numbers in the game such as the time table of 3 or 5, etc.
Digital Learning Framing a word problem using the correct keywords by using any data provided,
students can enhance their skills of solving a word problem for that number
operation. Follow the steps in the link below to practice framing multiplication word
problems with the students and then ask them to solve them as well.

Assignment/ Homework Conduct questions given on pages 39 and 42 of the student book as classwork. Give
pages 19, 20, 21 and 22 (first half) of the workbook as homework after thorough
practice in the class.
Assessment Conduct the multiple-choice questions given on page 44 of the student book as a quiz
