Rule 1: When the subjects are joined by ‘and’, the verb is plural.
=> Salman and Danyal are playing cricket.

Rule 2: When two singular nouns are joined by ‘and’ refers to the same person or thing, the verb
is singular.
=> My dad and mentor is the best coach in football.

Rule 3: When the subjects joined by ‘either or’ or ‘neither nor’ are of different persons, the verb
will agree in person and number with the noun nearest to it.
=> Neither you nor your friends have any interest in study.

Rule 4: If connectives like along with, together with, as well as, accompanied by etc. are used to
combine two subjects, the verb agrees with the subject mentioned first.
=> You as well as your friends are invited to the party.

Rule 5: If there is an explanatory or prepositional phrase and clause following the subject, the
number of the subjects does not change.
=> The students of class 6th are going on a trip.
