What does “ MAN IS A MORAL AGENT” mean?

How does the moral character of the moral agent


develop? Explain your answer in two to three paragraphs.

According to the philosopher named Kant, a moral agent is a person who has free will and the ability to
make their own decisions. Therefore, it is safe to presume that the moral agent he is talking to is us ,
humans. Because we are the only ones who is endowed with rationality, ability to think, ability to
make conscious decisions in accordance with his /her moral character.

Moral character is developed through the years of living and beliefs as a person grew older and gains
maturity. In Lawrence Kohlberg’s theory of moral development, it is said that moral character started to
occur at the early stage of human’s life.He also stated that moral character is developed through the
developmental stages.

In his theory of moral development , moral character is developed at an early age which is called
preconventional stages ,he identified that the family is the first source of values and moral development
of an individual .In the second stage which is called (conventional ) it is the peers and the society who
contribute in a person’s moral character. And lastly,in post-conventional stage, which is when a person
finally comes into his/her adolescent , he/she will start to reason base on his/her personal values
