MEDITATION OR MEDICATION:

Bodymind in changing times

Health is a word that is often misunderstood. Just a

disease-free state of the body is a bit harsh defining
term for health. Only when the mental, physical and
emotional levels assign a balance among themselves
and produce a state of harmony in every activity,
health can be said to be sound.
But the reality is far away from that. Even with all
the scientific equipment that we have, this homo
friendly state is nowhere near. On the contrary, we
have further destroyed the body by building it up too
much. A race that is yet to be won has been
attempted by all, and yet no one seems to be on the
other side. But maybe this other side is just an
illusion that we have created to keep our hopes alive.
So we go on piling up the skin over skin, mind over
mind and repeat the same mistake time after time.
Let's have a look at some of the statistics to get some
clarity:
 more than 80 % of the world's adolescent
population is insufficiently physically active.
 about 36 % of American adults are obese and
globally more than 1 in 10 are obese
 32 million Americans have food allergies

 Around 1 in 6 persons globally have one or more

mental or substance use disorders

 Close to 800 000 people die due to suicide every

year. Suicide is the second leading cause of death

in 15-29-year-olds.
 India, America, China, Russia come under the

category of the most depressed nations.

 In EU countries 27% of the adult population had

experienced one of a series of mental disorders

in the past.
Not including the poverty and malnutrition part, it
shows the cases of most countries that are said to
have done pretty good work. But only to end up
falling in a pit again- this time a revised good
looking one.
With the changing times, machines have snatched
the menial roles away from men, so the extra burden
of an inactive body falls upon the mind. To cope with
the current state of body, mind, and emotion; work
is required on all these aspects. Picking one over the
other won't do the job.
And that's where meditation comes into play. It
covers all the aspects of the human body, mind, and
emotion. Medication can only be an instant relief,
but meditation could prove to be a permanent cure.

A very renowned 2oth century mystic Osho devised

some of the most vibrant and scientific methods of
meditation. It not only releases repressed emotions
but also improve the quality of life. His active
meditations include dynamic, kundalini, nada
Brahma, Nataraj, Gourishankar, etc. Various other
yoga practices can also be added. A lot of work in
this field has been promoted lately, but still seems
like drop in the ocean, as the ocean keeps on
expanding.
It's high time that we revise our working mechanism
and organizational setup. Saving machines can cost
humans. Better to set up our priorities before it's too
late. Bulking up the body by eating nonveg food and
looking like adults in adolescence is only going to
destroy the human system.
